So my friends car had broken down and he is in urgent need of some help, so I am goingto try an relay the information he provided me:

Driving on the motorway an the car starts making a weird noise.
Pulls over opens the bonnet and can smell a butning, but not a cluth or mechanical burn, he describes it as a circut board burn smell
Takes the keys out of the engine and the engine carrys on running...
Stalls the car an leaves for some time
Trys to start the engine again and wont start

So he has gone through all fuses and relays to check to see if any are wet, has drie them all off and still the car wont start, he thinks he could hear the starter motor constantly trying to turn over, he thinks if he can try an start the car and then cut the power to the starter motor so he can at least he can get home

Also he is struggling to locate the starter motor, is it easily accesible, where abouts is it based?

Any advice would be appreciated

Considering this was urgent it's probably a bit late, but the starter is located under the car, looking up at the gearbox and is obscured by a few bits and pieces.

I am sure what your friend is describing is the grey fuse box getting wet.
Mine was the same, kept on running and smoking until I stalled it. Left it in the sun for about a week and all fine, however a hairdryer would have done the trick.
