My recently purchased Stilo has non working Air Con. I brought it to Kwik fit and they immediately said that there was ample gas in the system and a recharge was pointless. They said the fault needs specialist investigation and they didn't charge me.

When the button is pressed, the light comes on but the compressor doesn't engage nor do the engine revs change. All fuses seem ok.

Does the standard aircon system generate fault codes that can be read with Multiecuscan? If I can determine what may be at fault, Kwik fit will discharge the system, and regas it when any bits are swapped. Failing that, we'll go the pro route...

The compressor will not engage at temperatures below 4°C (also 3 and lower), and it will not start if the pressure is too low (little gas).

And yes, the aircon / heater ECU has fault codes.

Sounds to me that the compressor's clutch is not engaging. When you press the button you should hear it click. Cheers!

I suspect your low pressure switch is faulty, though plugging it into a laptop/multiecuscan would tell you the issue so its worth investigating.

My air con didn't work, went to have it regassed, got told the same except they did mine anyway, fitted a new switch and hey presto, fully working air con.

Very easy to change the switch, and not a fortune:

The only reason I knew it was the switch, is because Multiecuscan told me - a faulty one wont throw a code that alerts you on the dash.

Many thanks for the very useful advice there. Under what "system" in MultiEcuScan are the aircon codes logged - is it Body module or Climate Control ?

yup, its the engine side of things, you select air con / climate and it tells you the codes that are stored, even tells you what the problem is couldn't have been easier. I decided to trust it, bought the part, fitted it (5 mins) and have had ice cold air con ever since.
