Technical Selespeed won't change gear

Gentlemen.... Matt, MEP....

I have called it a day, shes on eBay now. Gutted!, really gutted!

Motor pump was working.. but diagnostics can't access the transmission ecu.

Just head and brick wall..

And that's my fourth and final Fiat for the time being.
I'm moving to a french tincan.

LauncherUK, proper heavy garage one.

Press engine/gearbox, only displays engine stuff.

Sorry to hear you have chucked in the towel, can't say I blame you I came close last time. Mine will be on the bay for spares repairs as soon ad my clutch goes. Iv said it before and I'll say it again. There's a reason there all in scrap yards.

I know, such brilliant cars.... the Selespeed is just the worst flaw ever.

Because they're all reaching a decade old, and people seem to have a fixation with comparing the cost of repair with their value.

They're in scrap yards just like any other vehicle of similar age and complexity imo.

No worse than any other automatic gearbox tbh.

Forgive me panda but you sound like a fanboy...iv had many other makes of cars that aren't dead withing 90k miles. Most people now admit that DSG gear boxes are sh*t and not as reliable as a slosh box. The selespeed is ridiculasly complicated and the general cost of repair when they fail is nonsense. Unless your capable of stripping the engine and fixing parts yourself of course. Honestly every machanic my car went to I always got the same response... Selespeeds are ****e..

I just can't agree that the abarth selespeed is as reliable as any other car on the road and your claim that every car that's 9 years old is in a scrap yard is silly.. In fact how many MG's do you see on the road? And they are 14 years old. I guess I am just bitter I sold my mk 5 astra on 80k that was going strong for this sack of ******

I wouldn't say fanboy, but I like to see an equal comparison.

Not sure what a DMG is, but try looking at the issues occurring with VAG DSG gearboxes, and look at just how young some of them are when the issues are occurring. The Selespeed gearbox is no more complicated than any other modern auto, the issue is often people not knowing what they're doing with them, and this isn't due to them being complicated, they're no different in function to the similar semi auto boxes Vauxhall used in the Corsa (2000-2006 shape) and even the Multi Mode Transmission (MMT) gearboxes that Toyota use. If they were that bad Toyota certainly wouldn't be using them.

Your mk5 Astra, I suspect had a slush auto box?

Yep the astra had a standard auto box...just looking at the reliability database the stilo ranks at 136 compare that with a same aged focus that's ranked at 63 its madness lol even if you know your way around a sselespeed it don't excuse the price of the parts for it. The other problem is finding someone to touch them because like you said they know nothing about them.

And the price of fixing them exceeds the value 90% of the time when they fail. Like I said mine is in need of a new mass fly wheel and clutch...I'm not a machanic so I can't do it myself so its toast. The car is worth about 900 tops I just can't justify it...IMO the stilo is a grease monkeys car... Ideal for father son projects.

I can't even get a fiat garage to look at one.

Yeah like panda said a lot if people and garages haven't got a clue what to do with them...my local fiat specialist hasn't he doesn't know where to start when I take me old bird in.

Anyway, you guys wanna guess what this will sell for?

02plate with 75k, selespeed problem, all the gadgets, +tow package

Well there's pleanty on eBay to compare with...unfortunate tho the gadgets and extras don't mean to much on a non working car...I'd expect a price south of £600 and I think I'm being ambitious at that...a working example with low millage will only fetch about £1200...keep us informed I'd like to know what you get, good luck

I've recently bought an 02 plate stilo 2.4 Abarth selespeed.
30,000 on the clock with full service for £1300.
Goes like a dream . Have heard nothing but bad things about these cars and now I'm worried. Lol.
My car really does feel and drive like a brand new car. Maybe I'm the lucky one ?
Sorry your having a bad time with yours. I personally would never buy another ford.
Had three mondeos all had engine trouble including engine valve seals knackered.
Focus with same problem. Had a punto 1.2 for five years never let me down. Only got rid of it when it was rear ended.

When do you ever hear a good thing about a car though? No one will normally go out of their way to say that they haven't had an issue ;)

That's true. I've only had mine a week but it's been a week of nothing but grinning!
I'm looking into getting an induction kit fitted but clueless to which one I would go for. I know k&n are a trusted route but not sure if messing with it will bring fault lights up.....what to do ?

I'd leave it untouched if you've been lucky enough to find such a straight and original example.

Hey yeah I was gonna report back on how mine as selling but I can't even get £200 for it! Gonna have to scrappy!

At 30k I'd expect no problems with a Stilo, but if it were me I'd look at selling on once you're around 60k, just save the headache.

And I'd agree with MEP, if it goes well, you don't need a kit. It's a head turner already.
