Was using my stilo abarth selespeed 2006 yesterday temp was on half but I had steam/smoke coming from the edge of left headlight, engine bay did seem very hot but am no expert, fan wasn't on and temp was fine.
Any ideas???

was it raining and cold? if it was and your lights were on its pretty normal, unless there is loads of steam.
Also was you following another car?, maybe exhaust from the car infront?

These things have caught me out in the past, i thought i had a cooling problem and it worked out it was just exhaust or water on the lights.

if above dosnt apply, is the car overheating / an or loosing coolent?
if yes try to find out were from, look for tell tale marks of drying antifreeze (it will be a whiteish, or the colour of your coolent, and crystalized, you will see marks maybe on surrounding equipement if its a pinhole. try to check the rad as these have been known to go.

It was pissing it down and cold yes, I am not losing coolant am temp sits bang on half , I don't think it was just steam from lights , what is it what causes that, thanks for your help

in that case i would just keep an eye on the coolent level and temp until your happy, i recon its the same as what i saw, excess water on hot parts like the lights and radiator will cause it to steam off.
In the summer ive seen my whole car steam like that when a quick summer shower passes, it made the car look like it was on fire for a short period.

Thanks I will just keep an eye on that along with all the other problems I have with my silly speed abarth lol

Not 100% sure but the cap on the expansion tank could be a pressure cap. If you car coolant gets to hot it opens slightly releasing steam from the system. Could be a sign you need to change the thermostat but as I say, not 100% sure as I am new to the stilo.
