I am thinking of buying a Stilo Abarth with 17 inch wheels but have been put off by some of the postings, particularly about the selespeed gear box. Has anyone had good experiences?

I've got a 3 door Stilo Abarth and it's a cracker. The Selespeed box is great as long as you accept that it's a manual with no clutch and not an automatic. People expect automatic smoothness and this will never be the case. It is very intuitive though and hopping up and doen through the gears with the paddles takes some beating.

I think it's a great car and if you can go for it, you should!

Would advise against buying new though. Look for less than a year old and you will save heaps and still get a car that feels like new.

2003 Silver 3-Door Abarth

I have the 5 door, I bought it in May it belong to Fiat fleet manager and only had 3000 miles on the clock, apart from the tracking, that is being sorted out under warranty,
it is One of the best cars I have ever owned. As Roja as pointed out don’t buy new and be prepared to walk away if the dealer do’s not give you what you wont, I paid peanuts for mine and ended up with leather all round ( I paid half) and a CD multichanger thrown in.
The gearbox is brilliant so many ways to change gear and is totally idiot proof and it goes like a rocket. The only challenge I can see is finding a dealer that knows what there talking about. At the end of the day, Fiat won’t your money. Good luck anyway hope you

We've had some cars in our time, but our 5dr abarth takes some beating.
I have to admit that I do prefer the 3dr in all honesty.

Always get stares tho, and hey it was funny the other day, we were reversing down a wrong turn and some kids were looking at our car, we heard them say "wicked car mrs"!!! made my day, lol!!


My partner who is a gadget addict, says he's still finding more gadgets since we got it in August.

The only downfall i would say is the hopping when cold, does frustrate the life out of me at times, but u get used to it and the Fiat dealers, (total waste of space).

We paid £9.500 for ours, with 8k on the clock and a 02 model.

Thanks for the comments. Dealer prices for 1 year old Abarth with around 10k on the clock seem to be around £11,000

Price sounds about right. Talk to the dealer about doing you a deal on the 12K mile service that will be due real soon on these cars. Make sure they do it before delivery or line it up for free when it's due.

Oh yeah, make sure you get the 3 door unless you really REALLY need the extra doors

Buy it, I want one but couldn't afford one, had to make do with a 1.6 Sport instead, still looking at the Arbarths though!
