Can anyone verify that this is legit before I buy new ones.

My Multiwagon has a knocking sound from the back. A local mechanic had it up on the ramp and looked at the rear bushes to which he said that they looked fine, what he did say that the rear shocks were faulty. He moved them from side to side along the top bolting pin mentioning that this would cause the knock. Does this sound plausible, I ask because it is easy to say something like this to a layman like myself.

What to you think?

Much more likely to be the rear beam axle bushes. Do a search, replacement of these bushes has been extensively covered. Look in the Guides section too.

If the top shock absorber bush is moving along the bolt, then either the bolt is loose or the rubber bush has perished. I've never heard of the bushes perishing before though.

I saw the guy move them with my own eyes so that bit is genuine, he did mention that he had never come across this sort of thing before so something's not right. Could the previous owner fitted the wrong shockers, ones for the hatchback maybe?

Hatchback ones are longer and have a completely different top fitting. It's a stud on top of the shock absorber with seperate bushes, spacer and domed washers.

MW ones have prefitted bushes and spacers on both ends, as in my picture above.

Mine were the same as, but upon shock replacement now know bushes NEED! replaced
