Styling LED Bulbs

Styling LED Bulbs

Hi,

Rear number plate LED should be legal, not so sure about sidelight, either way, im using LEDs for sidelight and for number plate.
I think only blue/green... etc LEDs are illegal to use for sidelights or for number plate.

If you, ever, decide to buy LEDs, make sure they have built in CAN-BUS resistors (more expensive), if not, you'll be annoyed by "beeep..beeep..beeep" sound indicating blown bulb.
Also cheap LEDs tend to "break" start blinking.

If factory fitted or 'E' marked theyre legal, if not 'E' marked then technically they're not, and 99.9% are not 'E' marked when it comes to retro fit LEDs.

In addition to this you'll have fun with the cars canbus system and the bulb warning system, personally I wouldn't bother even considering fitting them.

I have these:
5smd, white 6000k, with CAN-BUS resistors. For sidelights
3smd, same spec. For number plate.
And i use Ring automotive iceblue 3400k for dipped beams.

I like the looks. I've been using this setup for 6 months or so, never though about replacing them.

EDIT: pic of leds at night

For me, it looks a lot better, than regular yellow light.

Leds that i use:

Just curious but when you say 'E' marked what do you mean? Is that a number stamped on them And would an MOT tester see it? Or is it a beam patern?

Anyone got any idea what type of bulbs and what size bulbs are in the interior lights? Want to swop them out for LED ones.

Cheers,

Toby

I tried some for interior and don't know if type I bought or oddity with can system but puddle lights stayed on even after car locked and didn't go out swapped back to normal bulbs and led a couple of times as I found it hard to believe but always same.
I think I tried on the ceiling unit each side , that was same ith light of the bulbs were always on although quite dim.
I suffered with battery drain so took no chances and left standard bulbs in.
I think numberplate light and maybe boot light were ok so stayed led I think.
cant remember sizes but I think I posted on here about them?

afternoon all... its been a while! between getting a new job, then working nights, quitting said job and night position and settling with a new employer working 4on 4off on days its been a little hard to think about the forum  i figure its about time to come back to my old stomping ground. ;)

just dragging this one up from a couple of years back.

im just wondering which LEDs people have put in and how they find them. the front bumper is coming off soon for Engine and AC issues so its the perfect time to upgrade/replace the bulbs in the front lights.

ive seen Osrams LEDriving range and whilst not emarked, i believe theyll give the closest look to incandeccent.

i am still a little perplexxed as to how the legalities of emarking are actually enforced. insurance companies dont seem to care about LEDs (particularly in the front sidelight and no.plate applications) The VOSA manual for cars basically says if it works as intended on a switch, they are the correct colour/position and are visible then its a pass. As far as i am aware the plod cant follow it up if it passes an MOT and is noted on the insurance documents.

if anyone knows any different then please reply... also those of you who do have LEDs in your front sidelights and number plates can you post pics up of on in the daytime and at dusk/night both with dipped beams on and off.

cheers

Well techincally they can if they're anal enough, but most won't bother.

Insurance will only be happy with it if legal, which it isn't, but they assume that they are, nothing more. If you told them straight that they're not road legal then most would have issues with them!
