I just noticed yesterday that the paintwork on my bootlid, where the plastic handle meets is peeling away, I don't know if the handle has rubbed against it or what but its not good on an 18month old car

I've just spoken to a local dealer who confirmed the area manager needs to assess it, but can't tell me when that will be

Oh dear - I thought we had enough mechanical and electrical problems but not paintwork too  I think your post will have all the Stilo owners looking at their bootlids tonight. Can't recall what the paintwork Warranty is - 6 years?

Why does the Area manager need to assess? Is he a paint specialist or is some wriggling going on? (n)

Hope you get it resolved soon to your satisfaction.

I've had paint issues before, the joint between the sill and front wing cracked and peeled (another area for all to check ;) ), and the area manager had to inspect it first. And yes he does try to wriggle

A part from the pain peeling away where the paint meets the plastic i also noticed that where the bootlid meets the bumper, the paint has worn on both ends as if when the boot closes it touches the bumper and wears away the paint but i'm pretty sure everybody will have this!

Mine is missing paint from the rear of the sill where it starts to go up over the wheelarch. I assumed this was just because of the state of our wonderful roads firing small stones at it.

I've also noticed what looks like rust bubbling on the boot handle where it mounts to the bootlid.
I thought the handle was plastic so it may be another problem from when the car got hit. :bang:

I have the same thing but only on one side of the bumper, it's a very small mark and can't be seen unless the boot is open. I pointed it out to the dealers who said they would get the bodyshop to see to it, but i'm not gonna bother because i'm planning on getting a new bumper soon so it would be pointless.

Anyone interested in a complete rear bumper with splitter already attached then PM me, i'll be selling it once i get the new bumper and i only want £100 for it :) as the splitter cost me £220 i think thats a reasonable price ? :) (i hope you don't mind me chucking in this advertisement james, it's just that the situation reminded me i should line up a buyer).

James , the area manager i spoke to about previous problems couldn't have been nicer, it was him that got me the rear splitter painted and fitted for free :)
I have noticed a couple of areas on the passenger door that have something under the paint, it looks like a hair about 1mm long or something, so i'm keeping an eye on that.

On the big boot handle for the boot door on my multiwagon the paint is bubbbling aling its entire length.

Same story as b4, area manager will assess

No probs ;) , personally I'd keep hold of the bumper, but then I am a bit of a hoarder :D
I would if i had the room James :) I already have 4 sheds to try to cope with the overflow :D
Saying that though, the main reason i would keep it, is to put it back on the car if i sold it to someone who can't have a modified car, but it's already modded so that don't really come into it :D
I think i'll keep hold of my wheels this time though as my next ones will hopefully follow me to the next car.

Forgot to mention before James. The area manager kind of does his visits around all the dealers in your area, which if it's the same as here in the south, will be a 200 mile area that he covers :(
The dealers where i was supposed to meet him said 3 months between visits, but even that was not true. In the end i got really lucky and bumped into him while i was complaining at a different dealers :D

Does anyone know if the color part of the mirror just clips off or something? I'm sure it'll cost less to get a new one painted rather than to get the existing one sanded down and redone from scratch.

For better or worse I had 4 Stilos. The paint next to the plastic boot handle peeled off slightly on all of them. The wierd thing was that each time after touching up it would re-appear. Eventually concluded that on hot/warm days the plastic bit expands more than the metal hatch and that is what takes the paint off. On a cool day its easy to slide a thin piece of paper between the two whereas on a hot day not so and the sharp edges of the plastic bit dig into the paintwork on the hatch. Sounds crazy but it is true. Only answer is to take the handle off and round the edges off ever so slightly.

yep, it does. Shop4parts has them primered for both the 3 and 5 door (y)

They charge double compared to ebay! Think i'll get them some time this week. I hate seeing her mirror like that. Makes me wanna cry. And punch those car wash people. (n)
