Hi Folks,
I've just changed the ignition barrel/key on my 52 Stilo and want to move the chip from the old broken key into the new key so as not to have to change the ignition ring, transponder and ECU.
Is it possible to do this? and, will it affect the remote central locking when using the new key?
Any help would be much appreciated!!
Thanks
Dave

Its is possible to swap them, I did it when I bought a second hand remote. just be carefully with the transponder it is literally the size of a grain of rice and made of glass. I made sure i did it on a very soft white towel on my table just to avoid any accidental dropping :). I dont know if my central locking works yet because i cant afford my codes, but the car starts no problem in the new fob, the old one i took the transponder out of and the blade and it works just like it did in the non remote fob it was in.

Hope this makes sense lol

just realized you said you'd changed the key blade so not sure if it will work. although it will cost nowt to try if your careful.

yes you can swap the transponder of your old key to the new one, the transponder is the only critical part as it has a secret code stored inside which is needed to get your car started.
As already mentioned - take care not to break the tiny glass tube !

The transponder antenna ring is just a coil and doesn't need to be replaced.
You will have to reprogram all keys + remotes again (with FES/MES/Examiner) to store the key and the remote codes (not stored keys will be locked for future use, you will need your car's PIN code)

A good locksmith can make a new working transponder by reading the contents of the bodycomputer just in case you break your transponder - the PIN code can be read from the same file...
