stilo 1.6 2002 car normally starts first turn of key but today when i put ignition on all dashboard warning lights come on inc asr failure, airbag failure, loose connection security warning etc. Engine turning over so battery fine but just wont fire up! any ideas lads?

not sure about which lights go off (there is that many) and had to abandon car for 2 nite, but same fault occurred earlier today and locked car, opened it again and it started! tried this again but no joy, cheers

I would say it was Defiantly crank sensor, did exactly same on mine, however mine would restart after about 40 mins standing. But could cut out Again at any time, if possible get Code reader on it as it should throw up error code P0335

I seem to remember only the loose connection message on Crank sensor failure. (you can check sensor easily with multimeter)
The engine could be cranking over but voltage dipping which will cause multiple error messages. So check voltage with multimeter or as I did laptop and MES software. Have lights on too to put extra stress on battery. It should still start with lights on.
When my battery was starting to fail the engine cranked OK but showed 9.5V on MES. New Battery 11.5V

Engine seems to be turning over fast enough so doubt its battery. Where is crank sensor located?

Cheers uktrucker, gonna try with jump leads, if car starts its 99% the battery i would think, if all lights still come on with jump leads attached could be this crank sensor i suppose, however the car does not cut out after a while like yours did i only have this prob when starting the car.

It seemed to cranking OK for me too. Taking measurements and an analytical approach with computer cable will be quicker and more economical than replacing parts that may be fine.

You can check continuity of crank sensor with multimeter.

its also been suggested that it could be key fob at fault, any thoughts?
