Hi - searched the forum but did not find any response to my query -

Currently I'm in the process of general repair of the engine in my Lancia k - practically the same as in the Stilo Abarth - 2.4 20v - 175 HP.

As I have the engine apart, I was thinking to make some improovements, therefore:

Is there any possibility to machine the head to increase the CR?
(my CR stock is 10:1)

Furthermore I want to make exhaust wrap, possibly clean/modify the ports in the head + piggy back.

No cat already.

Sorry can't answer your question...but isn't your engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox? I'd love one in my 2.4 Stilo, the engine really has the torque for another gear (all Stilo 5-cylinder manuals have 5 gears).

Exhaust wrap no problem (although it can cause the manifolds to rust quicker) and even crack.

No big issues with cleaning up and port matching the inlet side. You can clean up the exhaust side, but do not port match.

Without engine mapping (and very, very careful measuring of valve to piston clearances) you're unlikely to gain anything useful. You may also put the cam timing out.

@ Yellow Peril

It's 5 speed.

However- just to show you that it would be ok - there is a Lancia k 2,4 JTD mated with 6-speed gearbox from AR 166.

The holes should be the same- the gearbox is only a bit bigger (longer)

Thanks. 'A bit longer' could be a problem in the Stilo 5-cylinder...there's not much space in the engine bay!

On the Abarth the manifolds are tubular stainless steel, so I don't think this rusting/cracking will be a problem.

As for the gearbox - if the 6 speed is longer it will probably clear the chassis OK (it's below the side rail) but the tyre already rubs on the standard gearbox in certain conditions, so there will be some tyre contact if the housing really is longer.
