....Hi All

i have read a lot posts in regards to the Syncromesh in Stilo's but i can't find someone with a similar fault. i have a 04 plate Stilo, 108k on clock, MK2 model.

It crunches into 2nd. IF i Change slowly and smoothly , it won't crunch, and double declutching works fine, But downshifting is the one i haven't mastered yet.

But here is the deal. It goes into 2nd just fine, i have no other issues finding any of the other gears and not once has it popped out of 2nd or any other gear for that matter.

due to work locality i have done 615 miles in it since i bought it and the end of May 2013 and it was crunching when i bought it, hence why i knocked the buyer down to £700 (y)

is it worth getting it checked? i've read recon boxes fitted are around £300+ and as i will be lucky to do more than 2-3k in it for the year, i am debating doing it. i have had it serviced, all new pads and discs, new flexi pipe and suspension coils springs, so have spent a bit already.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Rich

is there how to guide on changing the gear box oil? should do mine really, don't have any problems with it but would like to do it for peace of mind

Very easy.

Get gearbox warm
Remove filler plug (do this before you drain!)
Remove drain plug
Allow 5-10 mins to drain fully
Replace drain plug
Fill (with good quality synthetic transmission fluid) - until fluid begins to spill out
Replace fill plug
Enjoy smooth changes!

ThanKs buddy where is the drain amd fill plug buddy? Is it easy to get to?

Thanks

Robin

There are slight differences between models, but the drain plug is usually under the left driveshaft, the fill plug usually on the front of the gearbox. Both are a recessed hex (need a large Allen key or 1/2" drive socket). Some models have 10mm and some models 12mm hex. On the Abarth it is possible to fill through the dipstick hole at the back of the gearbox, hard to see behind the diff (other models don't have a dipstick).
