alexGS Yours are adjustable clips Alex. The clips that Stilatos has, and the ones supplied by Fiat are not adjustable, they are fixed sizes to suit the boot/CV joint and just need crimping.

Ah yes - like the original clips I cut off - I've never seen those supplied new, probably because I've never seen a genuine CV boot. Mine have always been aftermarket and the band clamps come in a bag of 20 sold separately. I've never had a problem with them, unlike with cable ties which are seldom tight enough.

Even with the tool I have (shown below), it's a very manual process - the band is threaded around the CV boot through the clamp (like a cable tie), then into the tool through the slot in the tool's rotating nut-part (under the car, this is about as easy as threading a needle).

The tool nut is tightened to wind the band tight (I find a ratcheting ring spanner essential for this), then the tool is folded over so the band is bent back on itself by more than 90 degrees to keep it in place. Then the nut is pulled out of the tool so that a good length of flat band is released - this needs to be trimmed off with tinsnips. I use long-nose pliers to fold the band under itself so the end isn't exposed. Then the two ears of the clamp can be hammered down with a ball-pein hammer. So, a total of five tools are necessary :)

Obviously, genuine clamps are neater and easier if you can get them!
