Hi everyone, hope someone can help! I've been told you can fit cruise control into my stilo as its pretty much pre wired already, just need the cruise control lever?? Can someone confirm this and point my in the direction of getting hold of one, and how to fit it if possible :p the stilo's got a lot of miles coming up and would be lovely to get cruise control fitted!

Thanks for reading

Ash

Hello!

That is correct, you just need a cruise control stalk. The can be had from eBay or a scrap dealer etc.
Have a look at this guide, it explains everything, as does the other linked thread in the guide for all questions!

And if you can't find a stilo one, you can use an alfa 147 one :) it looks slightly different but fits straight on and the plugs the same........ It's what I've got on mine (y)

I've fitted the 147 one too...cheaper than the Stilo part bizarrely. Only thing it doesn't do is illuminate the dash light when cruise is engaged - but I can live with that.

All the various versions handle the 'dash light' in different ways. On my Stilo there isn't a light and instead the multifunction LCD displays an icon plus the text 'Cruise Control Activated' when the switch is turned to 'On'. On the 156 you get a green light and on the 147, an orange icon on its three-colour LCD.

Only the 147 provides any indication of when the cruise control "begins to intervene on the engine" (as the handbook quaintly puts it) - in other words, when it is actually controlling the speed, the icon on the 147 turns green. The other versions make no indication of when the cruise control is active - they show only whether it is turned on and not whether it is set.

So in other words, you're not missing much, and the control stalk design/wiring etc. makes no difference to whether there is a light or not. :)

Hi guys, thanks for all the help!, so what did you all do, just cut a hole for the stalk? Or buy a new surround? Typically there isn't one on eBay for sale at the moment, ill have to call a few scrap yards! To be fair if the cruise works I can live without a light etc, I find it hard to get my foot comfy on the accelerator pedal weirdly, my only complaint from the schumey :)

Yes I found that too, I bought the alfa one for 15 quid and have to say its the best mod I've ever bought! On a run its great! ....... It's a bit fiddley cutting the hole, basically you cut a hole roughly where it comes out and just keep fitting it and cutting/filing more of the hole away until your happy with it. If you do manage to get a fiat one, you don't have to be too neat as there's like a little shoulder on the end of the stalk that sits flush to the cover and covers up the hole you just cut but the alfa one doesn't

Hi guys, just finished fitting cruise control with a genuine fiat stilo stalk from an abarth, it works fine, but I don't get a message on the display to say its working? I know the LED on the dash will never work, but everyone else from my understanding gets a message to say its operating, any ideas?

Cheers

i have a Alfa Stork i get the light and the message on the dash.

you can get the light to work by telling the ECU you have fitted it. using the free Multiscan software and a ELM327 or vagcom kkl, and Re-Learn.

bit of info on the light here https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/332767-retrofit-cruise-control-my-stilo-cruise-control-light.html

i used some side snips to cut my bottom cowel pics in the above thread.

I have the latest version 1.6 (free version) and when i try to activate it says only available in registered version.

Maybe im missing a trick... never tried any other versions though... too broke at the minute to be buying it, and have a hard-wired version almost sorted if i cant get it on with the software

No the only way you know it's working is when your still moving when you feet are off the pedals :D ....... Although you can get software to activate the LED on the dash

Ahh Gadge are you not getting the message from the display either? That's alright then, thought it was just mine lol, it's a bit of a mission fitting that lower steering cowling, but it's a good little mod!

Thanks for your reply

Hi Paul, thanks for the useful information, the cruise control is all fitted and working, I thought I was the odd one out by getting no read out from the car at all, but apparently not, ill have a look onto this and let you know how I get on!

Cheers again, Ash

I'm not sure if our versions display the message on the display screen anyway? I know that our insterment clusters are different to the first gen stilos
