I was thinking of getting a chip box that you attach to sensor-temperature wires I can get the box off ebay but I was wondering if this is any good on the fiat stilo 1.6 16v 103 bhp or would it be better to get remap as I have heard that its hard to get a remap for this model

Can't afford bigger engine the insurance is high on this one and its only cat 5 insurance I have 2 accidents in 1 month so lost all my no claims

No idea haven't asked them yet

Might be an idea, if you can't afford the insurance on a bigger engined car then you may not be able to afford it on a modified car.

Have you even had a quote for a bigger engined one? High insurance group doesn't automatically mean more expensive to insure (y)

Nope I haven't but hoping next month I get my insurance lowered as I'm still waiting for one of my crashes to be closed as it wasn't my folt but I have to put it as it was till the other insurance company pays up next month legal action will take place

Buy a 1.9 JTD 8v, I believe there in the same insurance group as the 1.6 16v and respond far better to remaps and tuning boxes. Plus they do about 50mpg.

Remaps
1.6(105bhp) - 10% increase in power.
1.9 JTD(115bhp) - 30+% increase in power.

Similar increases in power can be had from tuning boxes, a lot cheaper than remaps but not as good.

This tuning box you speak of kind of sounds like these resistor type devices that some nut jobs fit to there MAP sensor or whatever to trick the car into thinking there is more air coming in so adds more fuel. They will screw up your emissions and your engine would no doubt lose power and perform worse. I hope this isn't what you've saw for the 1.6, I'd always thought tuning boxes were turbo diesel thing anyway?

One ex member - Danny Mercer - had the 1.6, he had some engine work carried out which increased the output to 130 something bhp, he said it was rapid and the top speed went off the clocks. It's what you're willing to do that counts, for any decent gains with NA you need more than a remap
