Bought a 2003 Fiat Stilo 1.6 about a month ago and it came with a squealing/squeaky front drivers brake. I took it to my local garage where they applied copper slip and for the first few days the noise disappeared. Then it returned but on the opposite brake, passenger side....confused. After having copper slip applied for a second time to both brakes the squealing has come back once again, but only on the passenger side, the drivers side remains squeal free...VERY ANNOYING!!

What do people recommend..? There is advice out there about getting certain pads etc, or do people think there may be a different issue?

ADVICE NEEDED....PLEASE HELP!!

It could be a lip due to wear or corrosion on the outer edge of the brake discs, or inner edge, causing the edges of the brake pads to rub slightly. This is common on all cars. The thing to do is clean any excess rust from the disc edges and centres then remove the pads and file down the friction material at the inner and outer edges so they have a chamfer on them. This usually cures it without replacing discs unless the discs are badly worn and the 'lip' is too big. You will have to do this again at some pointing the future though when the pads wear down.

Mintex are crap for squealing, If you can find them AlliedNippon are good. don’t squeal and wear well with good breaking performance, bestof all cheap.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!!
Heard of mintex being awful pads so think it may be a strip the brakes down job and see which pads are currently on there....

Found some of the AppliedNippon pads you were talking about, seem a bargain at £20, that seem about the right price?

Thanks
Dom
