hi guys i think i know the answer to this one before i start but i just want to confirm...

the little darling has cut out twice on me this morning once was only a momentary drop in electrical power on a relatively bumpy road doing 50mph on Cruise Control, no warnings or lights but i noticed the rev needle jumping back up. the other was doing 30-40mph and it died with ASR, Loose Connection warnings flashing up... had to cycle the ignition to get her to run again :'( (i never managed to get to a stop, so didnt fire the starter motor) there posibly was other warnings but my MIL was on due to a lambda/cat issue and my Airbag light is on as i have sent my emulator off for diag.

after fixing my laptop and installing MES i have the following DTC
U1702:- Can Network (NCM - NGE)

NCM Engine Control Node
NGE Electric Steering Node

is this a common DTC that appears when the ECU takes a funny?
should i be looking to get it repaired? (i do have a spare ECU that needs re-virginising)
is there anywhere you guys can recommend here in the UK for repair/virginising or will i have to ship it off to our dutch friend?

also i dont know if this is right, i know there was an update for the Firmware on the ECU. has mine had it done or not?

your ecu has already the updated software - the cutting-out problems of the 1.6 Stilo's ecu are well known and due to the location on top of the engine.
I can revirginise your spare ecu if you can't find a supplier in the UK (but will cost you 2x shipping costs to/from NL) - you should consider relocating the ecu towards the battery compartment to avoid similar problems in the future.
