For the past few months my Fiat Stilo Sporting 1.9 16V diesel has been misfiring on cylinder 3. The fault code comes up as open/closed circuit failure on cylinder 3. The problem first occured back in October; it disappeared after a short period of time after the AA reset the engine fault light.

It didn't come back again until 6 weeks later, exact same fault code. This time I took it to a local garage; they couldn't pin point the fault exactly as the car was working fine when they had it! But said they would re-wire the injector 3 connection. This seemed to solve the problem; but 2 weeks later the problem appeared again!!

What could it be? Faulty injector? Loose wiring loom connection? Faulty ECU?

Some advice would be much appreciated!

Hi there is a fault on vectra cdti for injector number 3 plug to injector from loom.
Search a bit cos it must be fairly wide spread as i beleive they do a repair kit that looked like a new plug and length of lead that must be soldered into loom.
Not saying it is, just worth a read incase.
Im guessing contact cleaner in both halves of plug has been done? And slide on off a few times to get good contact.

Hello! Cheers for the link. I will have a browse through it now.

Seems like a logical solution to me, the garage suggested to me replacing the whole wiring loom! haha
