Evening Guys

Came out of work to de-snow the m/w, she started fine on the key,got half way down the road turned on me lights and noticed the climate control and radio backlights went very dim and i lost me boost.

so i stopped turned the lights off, gave the engine a rev. let her idle for a minute then gave her another rev and she was back to normal but the backlights where getting brighter when i gave her the 2nd rev and had full boost?

Could this be a bad earth?, Alternator?, Battery?, im gonna put my meter on the battery monday in work, am i right in thinking when the engines on tick over it should be 14volts coming off the battery?

Safe Driving in the Snow!, its not the Snow thats the problem its the people that see snow and panic!

Cheers

Hi. Sounds like battery to me, the Stilo needs a lot of battery power, and the cold weather sorts out the duff batteries.

Most car spares will test the battery for free, so must be worth a go first.

Hi, fella.

Its not the battery i replaced it in august last year reciepts are with the history, 4yr warranty.

I think the fault with the turbo & electrics is in the loom somewhere and think it stems from the elecfaults the owner before me had.

Not exactly sure what was done but know the dash and main fusebox in engine bay were replaced (properly thats another question).

It could prove a real task to find it i tried for 18mnths and got nothing but a headache.

Just thought i would see how you were getting on with it.

Good look (Sean Previous Owner).:)

Seems to me like a bad earth or battery. More of a bad battery to be honest.

How long had the car been sitting before this problem appeared?

How much power does the battery have? What brand is it? My last battery, if I were to start the car after 1 week of leaving it in the cold, would do the same. Dimmed lights, giving it a rev+ would make them brighter, but after driving some 10 miles they would be back to normal and stay there, provided I drive the car every day.

Afternoon Gents

im thinking it could be a bad earth, gonna go through them this w.end, the cars used every morning 7am, first turn and shes away.

Sean i took the Maf off the other day gave it a clean with some electrical spray, the crap that came of it was terrible!, i gave the connectors on the maf and boost value, and cleared the codes, gonna take the MAF mesh on the air box and give it a clean and air filter, shes running a dream

Clean the earths this w,end and give the battery a charge in the house, did you notice the radio code anywhere?

Cheers

Paul

Hi paul,

Dont think there is a code with the radio, think i just reset the radio channels when i re-connected the battery.

If there is one its in the handbooks somewhere.

Happy motoring

Sean.
