hubby has being looking at 2004 jtd stilo, as we have an engine fault code, no other symtoms. He has an elm327 lead, and some software which he has used on other cars but on the stilo it wont connect.
see atatched screen dump.

Any ideas?

Sounds stupid but the ignition is at mar right?

Seems to be picking up the interface though, you should try downloading the trial version of MultiEcuScan and try connecting through that:

http://www.multiecuscan.net/

That's my two cents, I'm stumped as to why it won't connect - I have a dodgy Chinese made ELM327 that it still connects but only to the engine ecu. Com port 3 is the same port setting as on mine.

thanks, connected with that, it appears to be a boost prseeure fault p0235, it was inactive so i cleared, lets see what happens.

I guess this can be cuased by a hose or egr valve, but its raining so that will wait for another day

strange observation is that the requested boost pressure is no where near actual. is this normal?

see attachment for screen dumps

Yeah the boost solenoid was prone to failure due to where it was situated - it got water corrosion. It was later advised to re-locate it to the side of the battery cover. If yours isn't in this location then that's a good place to start. Also check for cracks in the intercooler piping, any whooshing sounds when the throttle is pressed? Cracks would allow unmetered air into the engine which could possibly cause this fault?

At least your connecting to the ecu now anyway, drive it for a day or so and connect your ELM to it again and see if anything comes up again.

see the solidoid valve is £65 of the bay, are there any checks i can do on the valve, to a find out if it is gone.?. i havent found it yet still raining, but its not on the side of the battery so i guess it does need relocating. Seens strange i have no loss of power.

what does it do?

It controls the amount of boost the turbocharger produces.

You're unlikely to need a new one. P0235 = Turbocharger Boost Sensor Circuit Malfunction. It's indicates a fault with the circuit. The connector to the sensor probably just needs drying or cleaning with electrical contact cleaner.

If your sensor isn't next to the battery, it will be low down under the left headlamp. Move it to the side of the battery as suggested above.

thanks for the advice, moved it to the battery box, plenty of scratchs on my arms though, and i had to loosen the battery box, as i couldnt get my arm in.

bit of contact cleaner on it, so lets see what happens now.
