i dont know alot about engines... more paint visual ect...

hence why im still running the standard 1.6 16v dynamic in my stilo... (with k+n filter)

but i wana make her faster..

can i turbo the existing 1.6?
i dont really wana change the engine unless i really have to.

if anyone has a guide or can talk me thru how i can do it if its possible please let me know
thanks

It can be done, but I know of no-one who has done it, there are no parts available, etc. Much easier and cheaper option would be to put the engine out of the Abarth into it. Or a coupe 20v jobbie, turbo or atmo.

i need to learn how they work and fit on tbh.

the abarth engine is under powered anyways i got told..
arnt they running like 170 bhp on a 2.4 turbo?

170 from a 2.4 n/a. But it's the torque that counts.

You can combine bits of the 2.4 20v engine with the 2 litre turbo 20v to produce a monstrously powerful motor.

But, as for turboing the 1.6, you need:
a suitable turbo
a one-off manifold
a new ECU (or at very least, a decent piggy back)
Mapping
Some way of reducing the compression
New, bigger, injectors
Intercooler, oil cooler. ideally a bigger radiator
Possibly a higher capacity fuel pump
Upgraded brakes, tyres, suspension.

Ideally you'd use forged pistons and rods.

Not cheap when there are plenty of sub £1000 coup[e turbos out there.

yeh i been told coupe engines go in stilos.
whats the figures for the coupe engines?

and so what if i bought a coupe engine what else would i need

what coop engine are you after?

4cyl or 5cyl, NA or Turbo, Cable driven or electronically driven throttle? (electronically driven throttle only available in the VIS afaik)

2.0 16v 4cyl NA:- 139BHP 180Nm
2.0 16v 4cyl FI:- 190BHP 290Nm
2.0 20v 5cyl NA:- 147BHP 186Nm
2.0 20v 5cyl NA,VIS:- 154BHP 186Nm
2.0 20v 5cyl FI:- 220BHP 310Nm

Go for the last one!

You may find that the whole damn drivetrain just bolts in. Apparently it does in a Multipla, which makes life, er, interesting.

hahaha nice fingers!

the one thing i would be worried about is the weight the 20v seems to be a stupidly heavy lump. it doesnt spin up half as readily as my stilo and it feels planted even under heavy cornering in the wet!

either that or the coops geometry is awesome.

i want a turboed one... lmfao does that help? and as fast as possible :)

i mean dont get me wrong.. i love my 1.6 to bits but.. im starting to wana keep up with the bigger cars on cruises now..

i mean i roll with a 330bhp ST.. and i got no chance...

You still wont with anything You can squeeze into a stilo...

If you want a quick stilo... Mod it, but If You want a fast car Just to keep up with the big boys then go get yourself a real toy like an Evo, Scooby, Skyline, GT-Four, 200sx or 20vt as your base and mod from there would be money much better spent

how about supercharging it for a quick and realiable 30bhp, at the end of the day its your choice, but i think turboing the 1.6 will be expensive plus you will need to get stand alone engine management to get it running correctly and your looking at a few quid there, plus your brakes will need uprating too and the clutch and maybe the gearbox, if i were gonna do it i would buy a running couple 20vt that was a good un and then transplant the whole lot over, hopefully the subframe will be able to be bolted straight up with no mods, you would then get the brembos into the deal too that way you would have a healthy 200 bhp and you would be able to break the rest of the coupe and hopefully get your cash back but its a big job whatever way you look at it

where can i get a supercharger from. or can i use a different one and mod it to fit.. if anyone knows....

{type Below here} lol

i know a few people whi have used the mini cooper s supercharger i think its a eaton 45, you will need a intercooler and a dumpvalve to release the pressure on idle apparently, a guy i know supercharged his marea 20v and now his volvo t5, so his volvo is twin charged

If you had the 1.2 to start from you'd be able to swap the entire turbo setup from that straight over (maybe a few things needing modified) then get a remap and you'd have an inster 150bhp. Plus some other goodies from Forge could possible take it to 180 - 200. That's my plan for the future ;)

For superchargers check out Rotrex. Three grand for a kit for my 1.2 - aint worth it.

nah i got greedy and bought a 1.6 instead lol.. will they do stuff for the 1.6

Personaly I wouldn't really touch the 1.6 engine, more in part to do with the apparently "weak" gearbox it has. Not saying it's true and is the case with yours, but for me something like that would be enough to make me do something else with my pennies. I would stick the abarth engine in it or 20vt, or for more modern power get the 1.4 engine mounts and slam a 1.4 TJet powerplant in there.

IC and Dump Valve... with a charger... first ive heard... id have thought using an IC would create far too much lag for a charger setup!?
