I just want to check the basics of the process for programing a key remote back to the car. Do I need to have the key in the ignition, or is it some sort of "hold the button for 30 seconds" type thing?

thanks!

either way works clivvy did 2 of mine at same time which I think you have to do all at same time if ever doing again as it deletes codes and then you re-do them all again..when I was playing with alarm settings had to re do remotes after that too..but yes either way works in ignition or not press button on fob and let it do it's stuff

another point is one key will need to be in barrel anyway as you have to connect cable then turn ignition to MAR to connect laptop..so one has to be in barrel for software to connect but other spare key you just hold button on as it will ask if you want to connect another key

There are a lot of key fob cases and key blades available on eBay but it doesn't seem that any of them come with new circuit boards or transponders, you'd need to transfer over your old one...which you don't have :/

I'd try it with just the one key, if it doesn't work then you might need to resort to a dealers for a new key (£££!)

Unless you know somewhere that does the full key fob/board/key blade/transponder do-da thing?

I got a quote recently from Clemo Fiat Cleckheaton, just short of £400 for a NEW remote key that is with code from car if you dont have it plus time and labour + VAT, think it was £190 just for the key.

Few on ebay recently, seen a couple go for around £10

yes got my spare remote on ebay came with all internals just look for second hand one and not the new type of fix your fob case, mine was £12..needed it for winter as only had one and not want it to lock itsself with key in when defrosting...going to send for blade for spare the transponder will not work but can use emergency start procedure to get out of trouble..you do have the electronic code as the multiscan software will ask you to enter that before setup of remotes can be done

yes, i got a "quote" from Clemo in Clecky as well, although Perrys in Huddersfield were actually cheaper.

My plan, however, is to simply program the remote part-i understand i wont be able to start the car with this fob i bought off ebay, this is fine, i just want to take the extra wear away from the key blade, and gain proper RCL controls! Oh, that and i want to open all my windows simply by pushing a button, yeah man!

anyway, as for a proper key, i was quoted £120 for the standard key, plus VAT of course plus £40 programming and £30 for the code but im buying the code this week anyway. I plan to get a spare key later this year when i have saved up the money or sold my kidney on Ebay.:slayer:

oh, as a side note, the remote i got from ebay was a typical dirty used one, so i bought a new case as well, together it was less than £20 so well worth it, even if it is JUST a remote fob. well worth doing if you can prgram them yourself i think!

Oh Perry's thought they were no longer FIAT, is that where your getting your code from clivvy, clemo wanted 40 quid plus vat for the code lol

You may be able to find someone close by with FES multiscan that is happy to set up the remote for you for a few pennies or some arrangement, as I only had one key when got my stilo, got the software,, secondhand remote from ebay, and code from fiat and set up spare remote planning on getting blade for that spare one and have seen key chap on ebay that will cut spare blade for £12.50 but you have to take picture of your existing blade and send it to them and they cut it from that, also search on google found key cutter by photot for £14, seems a much cheaper and quicker solution than horrendous fiat keys....I know the transponder will not work in spare key but in an emergency if I loose origenal or some other disaster I can use the Emergency start procedure to get me moving for a while

i have all the kit and software, all i need now is the code! i agree though, im going to rely on getting the remote programmed and a key cut to get me into the car. I can then use the transponder key only for starting the car, should see me right for a while.

right, spoke to the chap at Perrys Huddersfield, £25/£30 i assuem plus VAT for the code pack, just need to go down with the log book as proof of ownership, so im doing that on Saturday if I cant get down before!

progress....

ok, got my cars "code pack" from Perrys Huddersfield today, bit more expensive than I thought but thats fine, £42 all in.

Hooked up my laptop, cables and fiatECUscan, eventually found the feature I needed, programmed the key and bam, done, I now have a remote control that works that I bought second hand off Ebay, hurrah!

Now I am going to go and buy another SH one, new case, and re program them both again so I have a spare.

well chuffed.

oh I even enabled the "flash" feature to indicate lock/unlock, which was one of the many options. The ECU softwareis great, theres loads it lets you do so im going to have a play with that later when it stops raining...!

Great you got the multiscan software up and running on your laptop Clivvy at first set up took myself a little time setting up Drivers and stuff but once done is good piece of kit as you will have found and with the code ever so quick and simple to set up the remotes ..
yes good idea to get another second hand remote the prices for them are becoming more sensible these days, may be worth looking into getting a blade cut for it too there are reasonible price too then you can use emergency start procedure if trouble with immobiliser or transponder in working remote plays up,, as Davren posted if you wrap the working key in silver foil you can test the emergency start procedure to make sure your car has that in it's software, I tested mine and very simple and good to know if that function is on your car,, also up here in Inverness I paid £35 plus vat for the code so similar price but well worth it now you have the multiscan.

yes I plan to get a key cut, the one on this remote, and on the spare when i get it, im just not sure yet, where I get it cut and if anything other than my original is needed?

I have read briefly about this emergency start feature, so i wil look into that as well....(y)

here is links
found these for key blade cutting by sending photo of your existing blade

And these cables for Multiscan software,, I used an elm cable and vag com cable which I modified with switches all work the same so have no knowledge of using the cables in the link but if they work easy option than soldering the elm but depends on elm cable as some come from china and work and some do not..
