Hi,

I've only just got my stilo and looking at the paperwork it appears to have had a new front spring fitted to the right hand side in May last year (I thought these were always fited in pairs????).

Anyway the car is riding really low at the front. So low I can hardly fit my hand under the arch. I've attached pictures of the springs from both sides. There appears to be little to no space between the coils and also it looks as though the springs are bowing out i.e. compressed more on one side than the other.

These springs should be fairly new so shouldn't be tired by now, does anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks for you help in advance.

either broken or gone weak or wrong ones fitted.i normally put car on level ground and get a ruler/stick/ broom handle to measure both sides.if you cant put hands in over wheels it is bad.fit 2 new springs for correct make and model it will raise it back up to normal ride height.

make sure the top mount under bonnet has not gone either as shock can put a hole in bonnet.

Broken springs by the look of it, look really bad, and if you have been driving it like that for a while I would guess your shocks will have probably gone as well, you need to get it jacked up and the wheel off to see what's going on under there pronto.

I agree with almci - take a look for broken spring, it could be the one not done . I replaced my front springs (one broke at 98k) with aftermarket ones and the car sat lower at the front afterwards but with no apparent handing difference. Im wondering if the new spring is just lower than the old one even if the old one is still good.
In any case get it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing.
You don't say where you are - if you give us a clue, then someone here should let you know of a reliable independent garage.

Aftermarket springs are slightly different sometime, but I would personally say the wrong ones have been fitted and the gap between each coil is too small and therefore the weight on the front has closed them up. Spring are not straight from new anyway. But there is defiantly something wrong though, from that picture it looks ke you would have hardly any absorbsion from the spring. Is it a harsh ride?

reading the part number on your spring it comes up as this - http://www.camskill.co.uk/m32b0s555..._KYB_K-FLEX_SPRINGS_RH_-_RH2619_-_KYB_SPRING_

i've changed my front springs twice first time because the originals snapped and the second time because the second set i fitted weren't up to the job, i got mine from eurocarparts and they were rubbish, had the same thing happen as you seem to be experiencing on your stilo front end sat too low. better off going for original fiat springs saves a lot of hassle in the long run, they may be more expensive but there's a good reason for that.

i've currently got kyb rear springs on my stilo and they make it sit slightly to high but that was how i wanted it as i carry a **** load of tools every where.

i had to get rear coil springs made as my vehicle is 1989 and mitsubishi wanted e480 for one spring:eek::eek::D,i got them made and delivered for £138:slayer:

bookmark this link folks handy to have as they forge the stuff on site.:D

I just put a set of eibachs on the jtd, they were £160 from carnoiseur, they look really good and the car is so much sharper, but if your replacing anything suspension or brake wise always do do in pairs, a car will never feel nice changing one spring or shock.
