hi chaps,

so, my air con was working before I replaced the battery and pollen filter last weekend, i since scraped the car and its been in the garage since. Today i am checking the car over before we go on holiday, and was going to recharge the aircon as I noted it was a little bit low/not so cold. I know the compressor was kicking in the last i checked it a few weeks ago.

Now, the compressor isnt kicking in, and when i attach my DIY gauge (From halfords), it leaps straight to red-high pressure.

I checked fuse F19-thats ok, but what else can I check to diagnose my air con problem? I'd like to see the compressor working at least!

helps!

this is what i get. sorry, you cant see the compressor, but its not spinning (i can turn easily by hand)

Hi Clivvy from what i see from your video you have plenty or refrigerant in your system as the pressure is high i .im just wondering if you have the halfords gauge did you recharge the system yourself using halfords refrigerant and if you have i think you have over charged the system.the system is fitted with a high and low pressure switch which will stop the compressor kicking in. if this isnt the case and the correct amount of refrigerant is in your system when you press the aircon switch you should here the compressor kick in.it might be hard to get to but the electrical connection at the compressor you can check if your getting power there with the switch off no power and switch on power.i hope this message makes since as ive had a bit to drink but my advise is sound as im fully qualified at vehicle aircon.please keep us updated with your progress

I've had this exact issue myself on my 1.6

You need to have it drained and refilled. Problem solved.

HI guys, yes advise makes sense and thankyou.

ok, I did try fill with the Halford kit a month ago. The orginal reading was low green, so I attempted to top it up but not much happened. Since then, it continued to work (i think!).....ah bugger, now im doubting myself.....ill take it for a check!!

when i topped it up, the clutch was spinning etc, it just wasnt ice cold, hence why i wanted to top it up, i wonder if i have over filled it? Is it porbably, that after i was filling it, I didnt remove the canister to re check the pressure, and it was at that point, too high?its just AS FILLING, it remained in green...

id that the L pipe??

i thought the one running that side was the H pipe. on the ones ive seen the L runs infront of the engine and down between the block and the battery. pressure test that one.

Cant read your guage but with engine off, both high and low pressure pipes are equal, and should be approx 5.5 to 6 bar. Any more and the pressure is too high, any less and the pressure is low.

ok, i will test again with engine off to see how it reads and get back...!
