General Stilo Battery light on. Power Steering off fault.

Thanks for your reply guys.
So I picked up the car yesterday and it worked just fine, they had also fitted new rear brakes and passed its MOT, I drove to the pub to sob over the money spent and rejoice that my car worked again.
When I left the pub, key in the ignition and nothing happens. I tried a couple of times but nothing. Checked the radio, noted the time still showing on the dash and the car lights on and central locking works. Key back in the ignition, hold it the the car comes to life engine fires, warning comes up saying excessive radioot fluid temperature and the car cuts out violently. Tried again, same warning wont start. Key out, talk dirty to my car key in and it worked. I drove home, turned off the engine, waitied 5 mins, started again all ok.
This morning I start the car, all good, pull away and bang, it violently cuts out, and the ignition is totally dead. Electrics all good. BUT when i turn the key nothing happens on the dashboard at all, turning the key has no effect on the car whatsoever.
I have noticed they filled the coolant up quite a bit over the max level, Poss culprit?
i going to trawl some posts now but currentlyu I am the proud owner of a Stilo Door stop and £450 worse off :(

Paul: Get it back to the Garage mate or better still ring them & tell them to come get it. As has been said before they got at it you only had the Alternator problem at least the car was driveable.

I gpt the car back on Saturday morning. Regarding the coolant pipes, no, the engine was cold. But that fault never popped up on Saturday morning.
The green flag man turned up. Couldnt start the car and just kept trying ther ignition until it fired up, then after 10 seconds it died. It did this a couple of times, the time to death getting a bit longer until the fourth time it kept running.
He plugged in a code reader thingy and got no faults. He then pulled at all the cables he could reach to see if anything was loose but said it all seemed secure to him and diagnosed the fault as undefined electrical, dashboard related. I then drove it to the garage with the breakdown guy behind me and it was fine.
Hopefully the garage will come back today with news that wont upset me. Thanks for your input guys.

I now have my car back, they took out the new alternator and refitted it and that did the trick. The sales guy mentioned something about a new relay but the mechanic never mentioned anything about it, he just said they refitted it and it worked.

I just wanted to say thankyou to everyone for their help and input, I really appreciated it.

That's good news then, hopefully the problems stay at bay from now on!

I've had many a problem with my Stilo regarding faulty relays in the engine fusebox. Engine relay, horn relay, fog light relay, they all got stuck "open" at some stage which constantly drained the battery even with the ignition off. They can be the source of most of the electrical problems on Stilos, especially if you've been doing a lot of driving in wet weather, always worth checking they work properly.

Happy driving! :)

I'm having a problem with my 1.9jtd MW and it's becoming more frequent.

I had been getting the Alternator failure warning light every so often but it wne fine. It has a new battery and as I always drive long journeys it should be getting charged enough.

However, it has now started happening more often with the added interest of no power steering. A bit of jiggling the steering wheel back and forth, sorts it. It repeats the error & loss of steering and then is fine.

So far it has only done this when i start the car and it goes through it's checks. But I'm worried it may do it whilst driving

It also has a judder around 55-65mph garage say they can't find it, but i can see the apssenger seat vibrating and if i'm singing i get an involuntary vibrato! You can't feel it through the steering wheel so i don't think it's the wheel balance.

Is is likely to suddenly fail whilst driving?
Could it be related to the new battery that was fitted?
and any suggestions what the vibration is?

thanks
I'm rapidly falling out of love with my MW, we're at 106k miles and already need new rear bushes and it's not worth them and another large bill. May be time to get rid. :(
