is it best to bleed the brake system with the engine running (for full vacuum) or with it off, bearing in mind i've had to remove the ABS Pump etc due to changing the servo

I would use FES but when I tried to connect my abs to fes it mucked up the body computer, that's why I was asking about running the engine

It's pretty oldschool. If you get a brake bleed kit (like Gunsons one-man Eezibleed) it's just plug on and bleed each nipple in turn. Don't have to have engine running, or a computer hooked up. (y)

UPDATE, had the engine running while bleeding the brakes (to make sure abs pump worked and also to charge the battery) brake is now nice and hard, straight away the car was booked in for an mot, just waiting until tomorrow to find out if it passes

finally got some good news

Checked online this morning at the status of my stilo's MOT, as we never got a call to say it was ready, and it passed, woohoo,

brakes all round, New caliper on back, New brake servo and master cylinder, rear axle bushes and a couple of new brake pipes,

so all in all, I'm a happy stilo owner again!!
