Mystery part -what is it and where does it go?

So I was being good and changing out my pollen filter this morning, and came across this hanging loose nearby.

It was hanging down on the rhs (drivers) footwell near the the pollen filter. By the look of it I'd think it was a heater box temp sensor?

I'm not sure where it goes and couldn't find a place for it. If anyone knows what it is and where it goes, I'd be happy to know :-)

Ps, did a search but didn't find anything.

Yes that looks like a thermocouple in the eyelet on the right, so I'm guessing some kind of temp sensor...

It's probably the mixed air temperature sensor.

According to eLEARN, this is where it lives.

Thanks Davren, you're knowledge is a great resource on FF!

Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately) it seems that both of those (lhs and rhs) are currently in-tact and correctly fitted. How many of these sensors are there?

I'm now guessing it might below near the rear of the heater box - which could be particularly difficult to fit.

edit: wire colours are grey/black & black/purple

Grey/black & black/purple makes it's the upper right mixed air sensor. The eLEARN diagrams only show a left hand drive car and don't make it clear whether the sensor changes sides for a RHD car. Could be either of these positions.

Re: Mystery part -what is it and where does it go?

Thanks Davren,

That makes sense...

Having just spent a couple hours pulling the dash apart and the plastic fascia panels - I still can't figure out where it goes though. arrgg I don't really want to put it back together without fitting the sensor - that would be a waste

Thanks for your help Davren, I'll continue to have a hunt around, but I won't leave it too long until I put the dash back together or I may never remember where all the screws go

Happy to hear any other bright ideas...cheers
