Car has just failed it's MOT

Offside Rear Bushes excess play,
Brake Master Cylinder leaking Brake Cylinder
Front Brake Application Uneven **DANGEROUS**

two issues there are the same fault, the master cylinder leaking will affect breaking on one or more corners.
you can pick up master cylinders pretty cheap on ebay, not sure what they are new.
rear bush, done it dozens of times on a mw, im suprised they actually picked up that the bush was blown as ive moted a couple of times with dud rear axle bushes, the beam is massive lump of metal so testing it in a workshop, im suprised they picked up on it.
tbh there is little wrong with the car if thats all its failed on. both parts are normal wear and tear.

the Ramps that they user have sliding plates on them, to can rock the front of the car side to side and thats how it was detected, it also had an advisory that front disks were worn/pitted/scored but not seriously weakened,

the reason i'm considering getting rid is that i've had nothing but fault after fault with the car, and TBH i'm f***ing sick now, the car is eating money especially when i've got a little one on the way :bang:

i can understand your frustrations, but everything there is wear and tear. im in the same boat with a 306HDi 2001 plate, just scraped through an MOT but the front shocks are failing, the car has tatty bodywork and an electrical gremlin but the motor is good, which is to be expected.

in times gone by i have known people to have cars welded where they are rotting to get an MOT.

I actually have a spare rear bush for a 3dr stilo, the subframe one, complete with new bolt and nut.

cheers dude but mine is a 5 door, once the other half gets paid next week, i'm gonna order a set of bushes off ebay, and then get the car sorted, just not gonna tell the father-in-law as he's keep telling me to get rid, so i might just after i've got it through the MOT

I know how you feel nikkiy9, mines the same. I've had it for just over a year and had fault after fault. However I'm keeping mine, can't afford to change it at the moment. Despite these faults I still love the car (y).

Nik . Get the thing fixed and you will be okay with it !. The list sounds bad at first, but really it is (as has been said above) wear and tear.
When those bushes are fixed you may be surprised that those rear end knocks you never noticed are gone . The brake fix will be an obvious improvement - the brakes are really good on a stilo and you will now appreciate them . . Enjoy your car! - you will have to search hard to find another model , any make , which is so versatile.

hi just having my rear bushes done as we speek,in the last month iv had exhaust, battery, front wishbone, two rear disc's and pads, abs ring and three new tyres.so your list seems ok to me ,i love the car and dont want to get rid unless i rearly have to (y)(y)

the ball and chain has came in from work and told me to order EVERYTHING i need to sort it, so in other words THATS ME TOLD hahaha

brakes should be here monday, bushes tues/wed so hopefully i'll have the car in for a re-test soon enough

Buy parts and fix car. If you still not happy with it sell it! You always get top money when a car as a fresh mot! Sound like you been spending a lot of money on it so all faults are probably fixed now!!

I'm in a similar position to you, fault after fault. However, these cars (like most modern cars) were probably only designed to last about 8 years and have lots of complex electronics (not an Italian strong point at the best of times) so niggly faults will probably keep happening. And whilst the 2 it's failed on are wear and tear items, it doesn't make it any easier when you're footing the bill!

From what you've spent on it, I'd MOT it then give it another 3 months. If something else expensive goes then I'd think about getting rid. That's the way I'm thinking about mine, even though I do like the car.

I'd be interested to know how much they quote to do the rear bushes as mine are desperate and the two places I've tried said they wouldn't do them. Even Fiat wanted to replace the whole beam!

I'd consider all the parts you've mentioned as general wear and tear parts. Especially if your banging from Lanark to Newcastle every few weeks, any car would suffer from similar wear and tear.

And just think, when you've got those simple bits fixed, they shouldn't need doing again for a good while.

I've just got a new clutch fitted on my Stilo, even that is a wear and tear item, a garage can fit it pretty easily and quickly.

Compare and contrast with my old mini, I've just had to rewire part of the loom, will have to fit a new reverse light switch, and the doozy, weld in a large chunk of inner sill and that's just the stuff I've noticed in a quick check before its MOT next month.

The stilo has only managed one run down to Newcastle, had to get recovered back when the gearbox mount bolts snapped,

as always, I'm doing all the work myself so no labour costs are involved
