I was just driving home with my wife when we both heard a scraping sound coming from the car. We pulled over and found an engine part had fallen lose and was scraping along the road.
The part is a squarish black plastic box, about 6 inches by 4 inches, on the end of a hose that is attached to a bigger hose coming off the engine and is directly behind the radiator fan.
I cannot see for the life of me where this part has come from or where it goes back to, or to that matter how you attach it.
At the moment the only way we could get home was to tie it up so it did not scrape along the road.
I have actually no idea what this engine part is, what it does, or how important it is. As you can probably see I am not very engine wise.
Could anyone please let me know what this part is and how important it is, and more to the point where the hell it came from.
Many thanks
Nigel
