Hi, just wondering if anybody can help...

Recently bought my Stilo and it has HID's installed already.
However, over the last couple of days one of them will randomly turn itself off?
If I flick the lights off and back on a couple of times then it'll turn itself back on... eventually!
I think you can imagine that if it goes off when im going down a country lane and I have to turn my lights off... Tad Scary! (n)

Also, if anybody can help with another problem i have...
None of my reverse lights are working?
I've checked the bulbs and the fuse in the interior fusebox and these all seem fine?

Any help with either of these would be greatly appreciated :D

Or we could move it ;-)

jake in future if you click the little triangle with the ! in it and report it is in the wrong place and wants moving we can save having duplicate posts all over the forum ;)

Op for the Reverse light check the reverse light switch what engine do you have?

How can ya tell if they are reflector lamps?
I know he could have just told me this but i got told that the HIDs were legal when i got them? And dont really wanna remove them? Just fix them. :)

how would I check the reverse light switch?

Because they're clearly visible in your signature :p people will say anything for a sale (n) have you headlamp washer jets in your front bumper? As I can't see the either but it might be the size of the pic, oh and you can already see the glare caused by your HIDs in your sig pic (unless you've photo shopped the glare in?), and that was taken during the day  (n)

HID's are only legal if factory fitted and have self leveling and washers, I had some on my punto and found them to be bad due to everyone flashing thinking I had main beam on,

as for reverse light, the switch will need changed, done mine and I now have working reverse lights

scour the gear box it will look something like this

(obviously check the fitments type before ordering in case the 1.6 is different)

Check the wiring to the headlights, see if it's screwed up in any way. To check if it's a ballast or bulb, take the working bulb and attach it to the non working side. Considering you say it works after a few cycles, I'd bet bad wiring (maybe corroded) or it's was a rubbish kit and a ballast is bad.

Either way, you really shouldn't have the HID's in a reflector housing unless it was designed for it, even if it's brighter, it will provide horrible light output, blind oncoming drivers, and give you more (bad) attention with the rozzers. Either spend the time and money to do a retrofit, or just a decent set of normal lights.

The new 500's have projectors, Mercedes, BMW's, AUDI, Porsche, many other luxury cars have them as well. The headlight like like they have little glass bowls in them.

Got round to having a proper look at the HID's yesterday..
Swapped the ballasts over and put the drivers side onto passengers and now it's that bulb thats flickering so its obviously the ballast, new one being ordered today (Y)

I know the bulbs need replacing soon but just gunna keep the HID's for a while (I know the risk of the po-po seeing)

Thanks for all your help anyway..
Reverse light sensor is the next job.. Fun!

You make a good point... Think these will be out asap..

Any recommendations xenons?

Osram night breakers are good, but seem to blow regularly according to reviews, and I've experienced this as well, but I'm now using ring xenon max and they're just as good and have a much better life period. Outlasted the Osram bulbs by about 4 fold (y)
