Notice that there have been a few posts concerning tuning boxes since 2009 here on the forum, but very few with any updates months after they have been fitted.

I am thinking about fitting a tuning box rather than having the ECU remapped, just for cost purposes really. Reading about them there seems to be 2 types, a potentiometer version and a adjustable digital version.

What is better?

What to pay?

Your recomendations?

From fitting them, what is the performace like after 3 or 6 months later?

Any increased wear on engine / oil condition better etc etc ?

i've had an italian tuning box chip thing fitted for the last couple of months, goes like **** of a shovel no problems to report no extra smoke infact i'd say less smoke than before. cost me about £70 quid off ebay. very quick delivery and easy to fit. mpg is down slightly from before but i expected that. dash readouts for mpg aren't accurate after fitting as the box tricks the ecu into upping fuel pressure so ecu thinks it's using less fuel than it really is. not really a problem for me. is nice to be able to put your foot down and be able to overtake with out dropping down a gear i would say the claim of 150bhp is fairly accurate.(y)

I had a digital version installed for quite a while.

No ill effects accept slight decrease in mpg.

Reduced MPG over slightly more power?? Why is that, just to go off on a tangent, a friend has a Renault Lauguna Dci 120, and he got a tuning box, yes power can be adjusted, but even on a low setting over and above 120 Bhp he got an increase in MPG. Would that scenario only be Renault specific?

There's only way to get more power from an engine and that is to burn more fuel.

So by increasing the power an engine produces you increase the amount of fuel it uses.

From my own experience,

Use the extra power wisely and there's not much difference in MPG.

Use the extra power unwisely and you'll soon seen your tank empty.

Thanks, I will give Diesel Express a ring.(y)

You will need to look into it for a 115 JTD but theres a few tuning boxes out there now the also adjust the boost pressure via the map sensor aswell as the fueling.

They work very well and no smoke.

I know this is off topic but would you think these tuning boxes would work good on a grande punto 1.3 mjet 75bhp. As the misses is about to by one and I can't get much info off on the grande punto section.

I have one fitted on my stilo jtd and it's the best, so I thought even though she is getting a low engine that it would work the same and give the little car more power

What do you think????

After taking Shadeyman's advice (y), I rang diesel express yesterday afternoon to discuss my Stilo and her Croma and bought 2 units.

If you click on the link above from Shadeyman, the digital box is compatible with the 1.3 Mjet for a GP. 75bhp becomes 96bhp max.(y)

U are completely off your head spending £400 on one of these boxes. U will not see any difference between a £89 to the one you have seen. Well only one difference. your bank balance
