Recently my fiat stilo's central locking has started playing up! Whenever I drive along my car decides to randomly lock and unlock itself intermitently. This could be every 5 mins or once an hour, but it always happens.

Just to note, the keyfob/key works fine when locking and unlocking my car. It only seems to lock and unlock itself whenever I'm driving along!

I have a feeling water has got into the electrics somewhere because of the snow. Also reading around it sounds like its to the fusebox or injection computer but I'm not totally sure. We have had a lot of snow recently so it wouldn't suprise me if it is that... what do you think? Any suggestions?

By the way I'm pretty useless with cars and I get my friend to do all the work but he's in thailand until june...

Have you checked the boot and door lock menu on the computer, Buttons to right of steering wheel?

Yes the setting are off so its definately not that. It just turns on and off randomly whilst driving along. I'm due a service and mot this month do you think they will charge if I ask them to take a look at the fault?

Sadly they do charge for everything (especially a fiat garage that is). They will probably put it as a diagnostic on the bill which is around £30 or so iirc. But it would be an idea to give your local fiat dealer a call and ask them about the problem, they might be able to tell you some information about it (some just say bring it in - so they can charge you, but some will actually tell you the problem if they know it, hopefully will be the later).

LE: also I would check the buttons on the drivers side door (the lock/unlock one), might've been a bit of rain that got into the contacts making them short-circuit. Take it apart give it a nice clean (just brush it don't use water or chemicals on the pcb). There's a guide around here that says how to do it I think.

It sounds like water has got into the drivers side door buttons (lock/unlock). My friend threw a snowball at me the other day when i was getting into the car and it landed right slap bang on the door and button! Do you know where the guide to take it apart as im clueless when it comes to cars... or how much a garage would charge to do it for me?

the door buttons pop off easily, just put a screwdriver under the who switch assembly (the handle door handle end) and pop it up, there are two metal clips so you wont break them.
have you tried the tried and tested disconnection of the battery, my central locking packed up last year for no reason and a quick disconnection sorted it.

I can see that this topic is quite old, but I will still write about this problem maybe someone will need help with it.

I had a similar problem. I have forgotten the driver's window open and due to a heavy rain, water leaked in the circuits. I found out that something is wrong after seeing that the doors were locking and unlocking randomly + the windows were pulling down and up all the time. But then it suddenly stopped doing that, and finally it also stopped working.

I have removed the bulk with a screw driver, I have extracted the circuit board and I saw that the wires were oxidized. Apparently they are very thin, which makes them very sensible. After cleaning them I saw that the oxide destroyed the connections. Then what I did was to add a little bit of solder to rebuild the circuit and now everything works fine.

You don't need good skills to do it but it needs some patience due to the size of the circuits.

Hi, I have this problem and have just seen you post. I know its old but hope you can still help... what do you mean by you removed the bulk? what's the bulk? Thanks

Hey Sam,

The bulk is that part on which the window down/up, mirrors and doorlock buttons are placed on. Hope you can solve it!
