Technical Lamder Sensor

Hi,
plugged into the car today for the first time and while looking through the different screens i clicked a box that gave me a reading for the lamder sensor 1 and it showed a reading of "SYSTEM LEAN" it occasionally flicked to "SYSTEM RICH" but to be honest i don't know the difference between them or what this really means. I also don't know how to go about rectifying the issue. any help welcome and appreciated!
