Technical No dashboard power

Technical No dashboard power

First stage today...as advised many times....off to buy a more powerful battery, at least over the 50ah original!!!

Then the search of scrapyards / ebay begins. Anyone come across a petrol cluster sub £60 please let me know.

Thanks

Got offers on about 4 clusters on ebay ranging from £30 to £60, have replied to all asking mileage as may as well try get one under my 82k. I hope when I get it it polugs and works as I won't be happy of garage missed bad earth, etc!

Got a 60ah battery, remember it only 1.4 with no extras so should be more than enough when old one was 50ah. Still dead / flashing dash when new battery in :(

the 1.4 uses the same electric power steering which is the main current consumer so there is little difference with the other models regarding power consumption ...
60Ah is just adequate, personally i never save money on my car battery - i just bought a new 74Ah for a winter season without starting trouble.
The old one lasted 6 years which i think is very acceptable. (still usable but i can feel the power loss compared to a new one...)

I still reckon something is up with my car, but I have had the battery and all connections tested three times now, and two of these were different people. Said D connector, earth, wiring, battery, ect all tested all obvious areas.

My car turns over but doesn't fire up a lot of the time. Takes three or four goes to start, wasn't like this a month ago.

When I put headlights on and then rear heater the headlights dim, even dim when I put the fan on....yet never used to noticeably dim.

I have bad feeling when I pick up my cluster tomorrow and plug it in it will be the same as the one I currently have!

Is there anything else I can check, considering garage and breakdown have said all tests fine....fingers crossed new cluster works...I presume if it goes in and is same as current dash something is wrong somewhere with connections?

Thanks

£20 for dash, in car all working...cheers everyone!

Only problem now was on way there old dash was working fine and came up with 'Engine Fault' warning and tellow light came on. Put new dash in still there.

So something else wrong now, think car is near end of its time, as one hassle after another...any tips on clearing engine fault sign? Disconeected battery, but still there.

Sorry to bump this up, were there any tips for clearing the 'engine fault' sign? Otherwise off to pay for examiner again Monday :(

you need to get your ass down to paul in aylesbury unless you know another fiat specialist near you. I'm assuming you are luton/hitchin area. He is cheap and very knowledgeable.

You could get FES (FiatECUScan) and the appropriate connecting lead and do it yourself. The cost of that is less that a Fiat dealer ususlly charges for just one Examiner test.

Brilliant on A41 doing 70mph and Engine Fault lights up and car loses power for a split second.

Any ideas? Could it be damage from where I started a gew weeks ago with accelerator when battery dead? Would this coupled with slow starting mean spark plugs?

Thanks again, cant get diagnostic until Monday

It won't be the fact that you started it with acceleration pedal down (have done it myself and have no problems), but could be the spark plugs. When was the last time you have changed them?

Andy

PS: the examiner/FES should tell you (or at least direct you towards) the reason of that fault on the A41, so that's a starting point (y)

I'll post on Monday. It still slow starting too, if turns over on ignition, but won't fire up until after a few attempts.

Examiner said 'Throttle Body' garage says needs replacing, about £450 fitted! They said this explains why it doesn't start and loses power sometimes when driving. Also said could pack up at anytime when driving.

Does this all sound correct?

Thanks

Anyone know if the above sounds right as I am off to look for a new car, as basically told give up by garage!

Been around a few dealers managed to get £500 to £700 part ex. So not worthless yet!

Was there any advice re the above as it isn't stalling like the 'cleaning throttle body guide', but garage said I need a new one.

Thanks
