Got up for work this morning, went out in the freezing cold and dark at 7am, started the car and put the heater on while I sprayed the outside with de icer. I have no idea how it happened but when I tried to get in the car it was LOCKED. My purse and phone were in there on the front seat, the engine was running and I couldnt get in it. I couldnt even get back in my house as I had locked the door.

Woke my son up, came in to call the AA and I dont have homestart so they wouldnt come. No spare key so had to break the window to get in:( Its tinted so that stopped the glass from going all over the place but now I need a new passenger side window.

Found one on ebay, paid for it, a work colleague who lives in Northampton agreed to go and collect it for me, then the seller called and said he has broken it getting it out of the car.

I also have a feeling that the central locking may be going wrong as prior to this happening I could press the button to lock the doors once I was in the car and now I cant, also the red light next to the lock button is flashing rapidly non stop.

Anyway I have put her in the back garden for now and will by driving sons car until I can find a window replacement. I am working six days a week, go to work in the dark, come home in the dark, always cold. I just stood outside my house and cried this morning when this happened. Had to leave it in the car park at work all day with a bin bag covering the window:( Im so upset.

Could be the self locking setting but I thought it
was speed triggered not time lapse triggered.

Time lapse is normally if you unlock the car and don't
open the door the car relocks it's self.

Something must have malfunctioned, the manual doesn't say a single thing about this.

The only case the doors should lock themselves is when the car goes with a speed above 20km/h.

It also says something about if you engage the dead lock and a door is open and someone tries to get in, they will be trapped inside. :)

The symptoms with deadlock is that you cannot operate the button to lock the car from inside, and the flashing fast indicator shows that a door is open - exactly what you are experiencing.

So my theory is that something went wrong with the system, or you have accidentally pressed the deadlock while in the car before turning on the engine but the drivers door stayed open so you grabbed the can, went outside and slammed the door shut, thus closing it.

I've noticed, and I'm sure that most of you did as well, that the central lock system does not always disengage properly. You can tell by seeing the flashing LED while driving. If you were to see that the system obviously still believes the doors are locked. So if you had a deadlock before opening the door and getting inside, the system may close the doors just for the heck of it.

Anyway, the cure to this should be battery disconnect - 10 minutes - reconnect, setting up the computer to automatically close the doors after 20km/h and getting a spare done just to open to doors in case of emergency. If you had it, the window would still be there. :)

I think you are absolutely right. I just need to find a window now....

Fiona,

just noticed someone in Edmonton is selling a load of bits. He may have a passenger door and window. It is from a 3dr(y)

Hiya, I saw that and its only a few miles from me but he seems to be selling the whole door so didnt think he would want to take the glass out of it. I guess its worth asking though.

I texted the guy in Edmonton, agreed a price, drove over there and bought it. Its even tinted, just not sure yet if its the same shade as the rest of the car as it was dark. Just need to get it fitted now:) Thanks for all the replies :)

Oh, a tip for you as well. if your interior gets wet or even damp, get some dry rice in a coffee jar and leave it in the car with the lid off the jar. It will absorb all the moisture in the car.

Yes he said I could call him back if I need it re-tinted. The interior is leather so damp isnt too much of an issue and the old tint has held most of the glass in place luckily. It was still freezing driving to Edmonton though lol.

Now I need someone to come over and change a headlight bulb, any offers? I know how you all LOVE this job.......

I have the day off today and I am thinking of replacing this window myself, has anyone done this? Do I need to be aware of any issues and where do I start?

have you asked the first guy you were buying the window off what he did that broke the glass in his window. At least you will know what not to do.

Be careful as i always find things damage a lot easier in the cold.

You have my Phone number dont you. Give me a call and i can talk you through it.

I may take you up on that, it was pouring with rain today so didnt fancy messing around with it, Ill just drive Damiens car until I have time to sort it. Wrapped cling film around the entire door for now. Thanks:)
