Hi Guys need a litttle help here I think.
Stilo JTD started to splutter and cough on way home the other night, then next night I had an engine management light up on way home, next day......
Car turned over strongly, very rich diesel smell in the garage, so fuel is definetly going through the engine, but its not quite firing up.
We put a profesional fault code reader on the car which only brought up a turbo sensor fault, which we cleared still no start.

As its turning over, and diesel is going in to the engine, is it possible the cambelt has jumped a tooth? I did have this happen on my old Punto (on the same stretch of road too) But is that likely on the jtd?

Also does anyone have any info on timing marks, procedure etc for this engine?

The belt, tensionor and waterpump were all changed (not by me) 18 months and 15k miles ago.

Cheers in advance guys

The fault is/was the boost sensor-solenoid, I've seen a guide on here about moving it to avoid this problem, it cropped up before after hitting a puddle!

After clearing the code and trying to start the car the code did not re appear, hence I think its something else, and as there is diesel going into the engine, which is turning over, and has compression, then all I can think of is the timing belt has jumped a tooth. I did not think this could happen, but my old Punto did this, and I re aligned the marks and it was perfect afterwards.
Problem is it seems the jtd needs a setting tool to line up the cam timing...So not an easy or cheap thing to check

Thanks for that Davren, At least I can check and confirm or not the timing positions, if the timing is out I will get the kit to refit it, as mistakes are unnacceptable on timing:eek:

Well done that man, stripped the egr cleaned it and found the valve stuck halfway open, stopped a lot of smoke and now seems to be ok

Used a guide by Hitby to see what was what, just a bit of a fiddle, but not too tricky.

Now maybe I need to get a blanking plate?????
