Technical Ipod / Connect Nav+ connection

Ladies and Gents ...... stop the press, hold the horses .... I actually have sound coming from this unit! The iPOD is seeing the headunit, the head unit is recognising the ipod and I'm able to press play and off it goes. Badda Big Badda Boom - I have sound.

Now by no means is this stable code, there's still the issue of not having button 6 to access the menu. Theres also a major stability issue, although I have had it playing tonight, there have been just as many times when it has said "CDC Scan" or "No Disc", through a combination of switching off the HU or reconnecting the iPOD it eventually works. Oh, and shuffle doesn't work!!

So be under no illusions this is still not 100%, but I have sound and that a whole lightyear forward from where I was last month.

What did I do? .... nothing, I simply re-flashed the firmware.

Good effort

Sorry - this is going to be another long post!

There are two files you need to download..

1. These are the configuration files for the Blaupunkt head units.
http://support.dension.com/beta/ICE-LINK_PLUS_FW_C11.ZIP

2. This forces the firmware update process to start.
http://install.dension.com/Start_Update.mp3

Now, onto the installation and update process

1. Extract the files in "Download 1".
2. Start up iTunes (make sure your iPOD is registered to this machine, but don't connect it yet).
3. In the extracted files you'll find a file called "update.M3U", drag this to the playlist section of iTunes (it'll be over on the left hand side), a new playlist will be created called "UPDATE", press enter and if all is well you should see it automatically import all the configuration files into iTunes.
4. Take the file called "Start_Update.mp3", which you downloaded from "Download 2" and drag into this new playlist.
5. Connect your iPOD and complete a sync, it took about 5mins for me to complete as the firmware update comprises around 800 files.
6. Now take your iPOD down to the car, everything MUST be connected up to the headunit - I tried to do the update without it connected to the headunit and nothing happened.
7. With the iPOD still disconnected, switch on your ignition (Don't have to start the engine).
8. Turn to your iPOD and navigate to "Music", "Genres", "_Config", "Update", "All" ... you should find the file you downloaded in step 2. Click it to start playing.
9. Once you see it hit 2 seconds into the track then connect the iPOD to the cradle.
10. Stand back, leave everything alone! Just in case you're not aware firmware updates are critical and they MUST NOT be interupted, my update took 2 mins to complete (dension asks you allow 5mins). But please bear in mind that I saw NO information about the process, it just sat there - as far as I was concerned - doing nothing. I couldn't hear the drive whirring, I saw no change on the screen. Then after about two minutes the play icon (top left) on the iPOD disappeared and then the dension interface screen on the iPOD reloaded, it popped up saying it had selected the blaupunkt configuration, so I decided that the process had completed.

I then switched off the ignition, disconnected the iPOD - it returned to the normal apple screen. (No updates are actually made to the iPOD itself - in case you're worried - apple endorse this product).

I then replugged the ipod to the cradle, started car and nothing happened, then unplugged the ipod, replugged it with the ignition on. Then switched off the headunit, switched it back on and badda bing.

Like I say - the software is clearly buggy - but you might just get music, and trust me, having the navigation CD in with 1000's of albums at your disposal is awesome. I cannot wait for the official software.

Oh, and if you get the firmware completed ok - then obviously remove the playlist and the files from iTunes - then re-sync your iPOD to have the update files removed from it.

Best of luck - let me know if you have any troubles.

That is great! Many thanks for the effort you have put in right from the start of this one :)

Im currently up to point 5 :) Everything has gone well thus far.

Two stumbling blocks now are...

1. Icelink plus is in post so I dont actually have my hands on it as yet :p

2. The car is in the dealers  (again)

Hopefully all things should align by noon tomorrow and pick this up at point 6 then.

Thanks again

Steev

No sound from it this morning. I don't know how many times I tried switching off the engine, the ipod, the head unit... all in different orders.

All I got was "No CD" ... arrrggggghhhh!

Gulp.

All wired up.

Off out with the ipod (and a printout of your instructions) NOW

Steev

Oh dear, here goes.

Went out tried point 6 above as soon as the ipod was docked I got the big tick, the dension screen (ver 2.01) and then it displayed the details to one my tracks but it was paused. Somewhere amongst all this though it did tell me "blaupunkt has been selected"

On a postive note the Nav+ has CDC in bold and its scans it (NO CD)

And the ipod definately draws power from the unit - so worst case scenario is its a very expensive incar charger :p

Ive tried the update about 20 times but every time the same - as soon as its docked the big tick appears.

I just tried it again now nowt happens at all, it plays the update "song". No recognition on the ipod screen ata all :(

Off to watch match, see you later

Steev

When the ipod connects to the nav+ - it should show what version of firmware you're running - what does it show?

It now does nothing and shows nothing when docking it.

Its as th0ugh the dock isnt even there.

I dinr see this as a step forward - off to drown my soorpws and im not even welsj

Steetv

Had a bit to drink yes :D

Anyway just had another go and still nothing.

When I dock the ipod nothing happens

I play the update song connect to the dock and song plays thru to the end then just keeps repeating - the first time it did this I thought "yay" but after repeating about 20 times it bcame clear that not all was well :(

The charging icon isnt visible anymore either.

JC: just out of interst yoiu say turn on the ignition but do I need the sat nav unit on as well (Ive tried it both ways though anyway)

It looks as though Ive managed to remove the 2.01 firmware from the unit

ANY help is appreciated

Cheers

Steev

ITS JUST WORKED!!! I took out the head unit unplugged everything and started again. I didnt follow the advice above and left the glove box lining where it was, handily utilkising the cut out alreday next to the headunit...

Then i followed JCs instructions to the letter to be met (to my surprise) with this...

IMG_2005Small.jpg

30 seconds later and all was well, then I had to go and spoil it by starting the engine

The wire isnt exposed so those nasty tea leaves cant see the ice link...
IMG_2003Small.jpg

It even knows who I am and what I like :p

However on every other attempt this is what Ive been left with...

So, A HUGE THANKS TO JC, and a big fingers crossed that dension pull their fingers out.

glad to hear the new firmware is on there .... I'm still trying to find the "magic" way to get it to recognise the playlists!

Oh well, I'm gonna clean the car .... maybe that'll help.

For the record...

This has been working for the last week and its GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not perfect, loads of little niggles and one quite major one BUT its 1000000 times better than any other solution Ive tried.

Steev

glad to hear it's working, and I have to say that when this works, it really is the best solution out there, it is awesome.

lardarse. or should I say miffy? I just saw your post to denson cf forum, I will try the routine you put forward, cheers for your help!

I hope it works, it certainly does for me :)

When we went out last night my partner drove and b4 she set off she waffnacked with the position of the seat WITH THE IGNITION ON. A minute later she starts the engine - result NO CD.

This morning I resort to the usual "diesel routine" and it works like a charm. We are of course limited at the moment to 600ish tracks :(

Stev

The "diesel" routine has left me with a different screen on my ipod - it shows the name of my ipod, and then just below it the name of my first playlist, but the HU still says "No CD", and I cannot select any audio ... I have a feeling I'm getting there, will keep trying!!
