HI guys,

1.9 diesel JTD active 8 valve:

Was low on fuel (readout said 33 miles range to empty) when the engine stopped. Off to Tesco with the fuel can - gallon of diesel - and hey presto, it starts again after about 20 seconds of cranking......

But - the Engine Management light now is permanently on and the readout says 'Engine Fault' when I start it up. Related presumably? Any ideas...?

Can you interrogate these cars like you can with Vauxhalls? ie. the paperclip test...?

Engine and car run fine - no probs driving.

All/any help gratefully received...

Not sure what the paper clip test is but FiatECUScan(http://www.fiatecuscan.net) will read the error codes stored in the engine ECU and give you a good idea of what was wrong.

either disconnect the battery for half hour or leave it overnight. Should clear

The 69 miles to empty was based on your last driving habits, then you went economical and the status was changed.
That is normal.

Only when the computer displays nothing as in _ _ _ then you seriously need to fill up.

ill stick to the fuel guage when it gets near the end of the red its time for some diesel
