Anyone else with a re-maped JTD115 got any smoke test results? Mine only just passed today. Limit is 3.00 1/m mine was 2.94 1/m average.

To get it through the test was done at 90 deg C, 6 revs to max, started at 3.7 1/m, 6th was 2.65 1/m, but thankfully they go on the average.

Car is running 157 bhp re-map, smokes under hard acceleration, and when its 1st started and driven 1st 300 metres. Re company said no smoke no poke, so clearly they expect more smoke with more bhp. Immediatly after re-map more smoke was obvious, especially when dark.

Worringly MOT tester said after next April MOT emissions will be tighter and ECU will be checked for corruption (ie remaps I assume) ! Now I am worried if it will pass next year

Just found out the old MOT 7,000 miles ago and smoke emissions were only .83 1/m, so last time (pre-remap) an immediate pass and no need for a further 2 or 5 max maximum revving sessions beyond the cars red line, this can't do the car much good ! The MOT Examiner said there is a rev limiter in the ECU and the engine will not rev beyond the max set by the limiter and thats what the MOT tests to, the max revs of the engine, not the red line on the rev counter

with tuning box on ,last 2 mot's were 1.07 and 1.10 and limit was 1.5 for my car jtd 16v.
i always try to put injector cleaner and good fuel in tank, clean air filter and egr valve before mot and give it a good blast on the way there.
i remember feeling uncomfortable when i watched the test but i dont think they were maxing revs?

Hello Dave.

Is there any chance your EGR could be sticking, I believe this can cause an excess of smoke.

I have a copy of your 157bhp MAP, if emmissions force you to have it removed and the original 115bhp MAP reinstalled I'm sure I'll be able to reinstall your 157bhp MAP for you after the MOT. ;)

Come to Northern Ireland they dont even bother to check diesels anymore cause they blew up a few engines :p Its very important before they do the test that the engine is fully heated up and takin for a good blitz before hand.

i asked ,yes they are supposed to run into the govoner/rev limiter i asked and the computer screen shows the message to do it.
but it must not register revs as he said he will not do it as he thinks as we do, that its bad for the engine.
just had mot, passed 0.57 actual value.( nearly half last years value)
gave it double dose of millers on last fill up 300 miles ago and been running water meth injection several times this week to clear soot out(hopefully) and recently did ecu relearn.this is jtd150 16v with digital tuning box on , fully decated exhaust and ebay fmic fitted.gave it a good warm up on the way there as i needed a bit of heat in my brakes also(ebc red stuff)(no print out but fronts were 330-340kg/f on digi readout)(found 2009 results, brakes were 295-305kg/f on green pads)

Mine passed today, was really worried as i have full decat and remap. Tester said it was well within the limits but didnt give figures. Sounds like you may have a fault somewhere. i did run an injector cleaner through my engine for a week before the test.

Regards smoke you do get a lot more smoke when remapped and it is more noticeable at night in other cars lights.

does that mean you can map a 115 from scatch, in exchange for guiness tokens of course, and if so where in Wolverhampton are you (I am originally from Codsall-and my folks are still there)

I'm only able to take a copy of the MAP in your 115 and upload Re-MAPs. I lack the abilty to alter a MAP from scratch, its a very difficult thing to understand and do. However, I am able to take a copy of your 115 MAP, email it to a clever friend and for a fee of £80(I think) he will email it back to me Re-Mapped. All I do then is upload the new MAP to your 115.

Or we could try installing myRe-MAP from my 115 JTD. For that service Guiness Tokens will be very welcome. ;)

You'll find me @ WV13 2QB

I probably put my question wrong, you stated re install the other guys map, I suppose what I meant was re map or install another map on my car
Cheers

I probably put my question wrong, you stated re install the other guys map,

If Dave had to have the original(standard) MAP put back in to pass the MOT emmissions test then yes I'm able to re install Daves Re-MAP for him after the MOT because Dave gave me a copy of his Re-MAP.

I suppose what I meant was re map or install another map on my car
Cheers

Yes I'm able to copy, delete and install MAPs from a 115 JTD. I'm just not able to take your standard 115 MAP, make adjustments to it(like my friend does for £80) and turn it into what most people call a Re-MAP.

I have 3 Re-MAPs we could try in your 115, one of them may work.

Cheers shadey, what flavours do those maps come in? and what is sensible on a 95k car (if at all tbh)
Does try them mean they may not work, or may not suit my needs?
Oh and driven steady, will it really not affect my mpg too much? I typically stick on the cruise and chug along at 50 - 55 to work and back, but now and again its nice to open it up and get a hustle on.

Try means, I take a copy of your MAP and store it on my laptop. We then try all 3 MAPs in your car and you take it for a spin. If they work I'll email you a copy of your original MAP so you always have it just incase its needed, then you drive home with a huge small on your face. If they dont work I put your original MAP back in the car and you drive home with a long sad face instead.

Flavours are:

Good
Very Good
Insane

Our Multiwagon has 105,000 miles on her and I've tried all 3 Re-MAPs in her. I settled for the Very Good MAP, the insane one is a clutch killer.

MPG is better strangely enough, as long as you drive the same as before, which I find difficult to do sometimes, all that extra power is very addictive.

Towing a large trailer at 60mpg on the motorway our Multiwagon still acheived 52mpg average.

I'm in all day today if you fancy a drive over?

I am struggling to get 50mpg on an 11 mile run to and from work using cruise at 50-55 ish , although on a longer run I'm getting 60ish

As to running over today, two things,
One, too much guiness last night, and I've got a fair pikle of work to do here today....I'll be in touch I'm sure before my next family visit to the midlands though(y)
