Tuning Tuning my stilo JTD, turbo upgrade, help please!

thanks Radoslavp and Sussexa. Did think about a fast road kit and new dm flywheel. My mechanic has said about a kit using an alfa 155 flywheel but we need to look into it more. The 159 kit sounds good if it fits the 115 engine and only the clutch needs modding.

not looking at pushing the engine any more though just making the best of what i have. Intercooler wise i am thinking that a bigger core in the standard place may work.

my mechanic supplier cross referenced the flywheels and said the same part is used accross the range 159 16v is the same as stilo 8v. So is it just the clutch thats different?

nope, here's the list:

So how come Bravo2 dmf could hold up to 380Nm/183bhp ?

just like to says thanks for all your help guys, i think im getting a little out of my depth with some of it though, but was an intresting read. as someone mentioned earlier think i need to start off with more power to achieve the results im after.

in regards to an earlier question my clutch is holding up just fine so far (800 miles)ish

All quite interesting to me, I think you have done well to push a 115bhp car so far. I have looked at remaps myself (and tuning boxes) and am still undecided, it seems just a remap takes the 115bhp/250nm to 150/300, quite an improvement, I have noted that the multijets offering 120bhp have less torque and are slower (to 60) than the 8v, so you need to get a 150bhp multi, but they are not too common if you want performance, I'd totally dismiss the 2.4 Abarth as any N/A engine has only limited tuning potential, without spending shedloads on it..ie a 170bhp Abarth gets upto 180 from a map, yet a 150 multi for the same cost map gets past it to 190bhp (the guys I was looking at claim to be able to get 210 from the multi, but wont go past 190 as the 'box diff n clutch won't go past 190 either)
I did read about a guy on Alfaowner who was aimingh at 400bhp from a 1.9 in a GT, but that was a serious and very costly mod list including loads of one off custom parts.

so IMHO
your at the top end for now with the 8v unless you want to throw loads of dosh at it

You could go again with a 16v 150bhp (Oh and you can fit an Alfa Q2 diff in this model-LSD) and push it upto 190, or above if you are happy to replace drivetrain items

I do wonder though whether you could put a 20v turbo engine etc into an Abarth, these do tune brilliantly, and would probably give you the ultimate Stilo-again not a cheap option

missed earlier question about induction kit
just did a quick test to check restriction of standard airbox and snorkel on my jtdm stilo, im using a k+n panel filter but agree the paper element would probably give same flow.
gauge is 0 to 1.0 kilopascals which is 0 to 0.145 psi or 0 to 4.0 inches of water, drilled and tapped a test point at bottom of airbox clean side of filter.(sucking on pipe gently easily goes full scale)

heres a vid in neutral(no load)

heres a vid under load(i think 4th gear)

at load it goes overscale but judging by speed up to max i wouldnt think it goes much over.(will try to get a digi readout)
hope this helps prove std airbox's arnt that bad.

don't know about 400hp!!did you mean 400nm?
the most i remember seeing for the jtd 16v is 525Nm@2372rpm ( >490Nm@2100-3500rpm) ; 263cv@4316rpm these are zbrskz on alfafowner, alfa 147jtd 16v lots of major mods

It was 400BHP:eek:
Sadly I can't remember the thread, or poster other than the seemingly mad target for his GT (1.9 Multi) I do also remember he was fitting a much larger turbo, and I'm sure he wasn't from Britain.

I know once you go with a turbo, as long as longevity or practicality don't matter you can do stupid things (oh and money can't matter either)

re your later post a lot of the guys on AO were/are using BMC air boxes-induction kits, but I feel (as your test shows) the benefits are negligble esp. when you add cost to the equation, I was also recomended to change the air inlet pipe on my V6 because of the resanonce chamers slowing down airflow, did nowt at all, so I switched it back, a freeflow exhaust did make a huge difference though, but there was a noise cost, that in the end made me take it off. As I did the decat pipe.

Oh and just wondered if you WERE an Alfa Owner, or just after tuning advice, I think its a great forum mainly a great crowd, just feel like an interloper after switching to a Fiat

Hi guys,no longer a stilo jtd owner, now a croma 2.4mjet owner.I had a bit of a go at this game, big remap, injector cc,s adjusted etc.I could never get the dmf and clutch to hold together. That was at 170hp and 280 lbs ft not nm of torque.(8v jtd)
We then started fitting c and g up rated clutchs and a new dmf together. The clutchs were sound, but it got to a point were the dmf,s were lasting one week. That is no bull.It felt like the screen was going to jump out.
8v and 16v flywheels were the same or same part number, but how about a 1.9ttid flywheel,190hp and 295 lbs ft as standard?
