Whats the difference? Last week my mechanic was telling me I needed a new engine mount and this week hes saying its a gearbox mount. I have done searches on here and they seem to be the same thing - I just need to buy one, dont really want a lesson in names for car parts but need to buy the RIGHT thing LOL. So can someone tell me what is what please?

Ok he has now confirmed its a rear passenger side gearbox mount, does anyone know roughly how much I can expect to pay for this and is it a Fiat only part? TY :)

Hi Fiona.

I think Phil is correct, this is what I found in the ePER. Item 2.

I saw that one but it says its an engine mount which got me confused, maybe I will just tell him to source one, its making my head hurt - just not as much as my bank balance. Thanks for responding.

Engine mount for my Multiwagon cost £45, only obtainable from from local Fiat dealer at that time.

Ask your local Fiat dealer which one you need and they will give you the part number. You might be able to source cheaper yourself?

Sorry, I meant 'Gearbox Mount'.

Fiat called it an 'Engine mount' which is obviously a general term, but it was actually a Gearbox Mount.

That's why it's confusing I guess.

In most front wheel drive cars, the engine and transmission are mounted in the engine bay as one unit, with normally two main suspension points (or mounts), one at the cambelt end and the other, logically, at the gearbox end. There is also a stabiliser of some sort to limit fore/aft movement, usually low down, again near the gearbox.

Probably clear as mud, but thought that might help...

Fascinating;)

Do I detect the slighest whiff of sarcasm? Fully understandable though (it's a man thing!).

Im sorry. I appreciate all the help and responses, this forum has been great since I got my car and my son is on his third Stilo now (keeps finding a better one lol), but its all I can do to wash it at the moment ( the last time I washed it was when I took it to Brooklands ) and its costing me SO MUCH money:( Another £600 Im about to spend this weekend and thats only because its a friend of my son who has sourced the parts a bit cheaper. Quite frankly I would rather buy shoes but not because I enjoy walking so its got to be done:)
