When I use the remote I have a range of about 4-5 meters away from the car. What range do you have roughly?
i think that I should get more. And I do not think it's the batteries. Also, I have tinted windows. You think that could make a difference?

I have no tainted windows and i also have only 4 to 5 meters range, in horizontal, but in vertical i have almost 10 meters, i have tried it from my third floor apartement, in the car manual´s they talk about 20 meters.

Yeah, I seem to get the same sort of range but have not tried dangling out the window yet.

10-20 metres sounds about right to me.

I think that the sensor is in the bottom of the wing mirrors so the angle the car's at my make a difference....

I was under the impression it was the little dome in the centre of the dashboard underneath the windscreen

We've always wondered what that was.

The remote control works by radio, not IR.

As I understand it, that dome in the centre of the dashboard is part of the climate control system.

The dome in used to detect the amount of light hitting the windscreen then the climate control kicks in to stop the sun light raising the temperature in the car.

there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding this dome.

So far we have:
1) remote control sensor
2)part of the climate control
3) dusk sensor on the lights

Apparently no one really knows.
Could it be some sort of tracking device used by the American goverment part of the Antiterrorist programme?
Or maybe a thought-control-evil-dome!!:D[}:)]

Another theory....

1. I've had other cars with the dashboard mounted sun/heat sensor so that is what the dome is.
2. The light sensor I believe is mounted with the rain sensor at the top of the windscreen (the wiper sweep clears the rain sensor, the sensor above is the light sensor).
3. The remote control sensor is the little thing sticking out of the bottom of the driver's door mirror.

...or maybe some else really knows without guessing...;)

Hi Roja

Ive looked at my Fiat Parts/Workshop CD's and i've found out a few things:

1. The little dome on the dashboard is the "Linear Sensor" - it is used to detect the amount of sunlight entering the car for the Dual Zone Climate Control - for manual Air Con, it is simply a plug (older Stilo's had a plastic cover, newer one's have the sensor's dome but without a sensor).
2. The rain sensor & dusk sensor are both housed in interior rear-view mirror housing - if you look at your windscreen from the outside, you'll see it (it's the top square).

As for the remote control sensor, I havent found that yet. I also beleive that the dimples under the mirrors are for the exterior temperature guage on the instrument cluster.

I was informed that the range of the remote control have been limited by the law, now all the cars alarms are limited to a range of 5 meters.

Fiat Stilo 1.6 Dynamic Sport, nav connect.

That doesnt really matter because many alarms co-operate with the immobilizer i can open my throuh a wall from 8m and more.

To double the range of your Remote, hold it on your head, and activate it, you can use it from twice as far, I do this in Tescos car park much to my MRS embarrasment!

:D
Does this work if your only 5ft 4in ? :D
