Just wondering. My battery went out on my 52 Stilo 1.6 Dynamic w/aircon.
Is this covered by the 3rd year warranty? If not, I bought from Halfords, their top of the line (?) battery at £65 that I can put in. If it is covered by warranty then I'll take the Halfords battery back. Thanks for your help.

Not sure - may depend on your dealer.

tbh, if the Halfords one is more powerful than the FIAT one I'd keep it as there have been reports that an uprated battery prevents a lot of the weird and wonderful errors from appearing on the 1.6 - I'm gonna replace mine with a JTD battery for this very reason.

Batteries are like tyres and exhausts, consumable! For you to replace! ;)

As for Halfords top of the range! Top of the range price maybe.... if you go to your local independant auto factor you can get a branded one for half the price! I bought a Ford Puma Calcium Silver battery, by Varta for £35! Top quality battery for my mini! Equivalent batter in HellFrauds was £65, and it was halfords branded!

And they both came with the same 4 year warranty.

Thanks for the responses. I did think the Halfords battery was a bit expensive, and, as yet, have not installed it. I was concerned about my warranty. I would hate for Fiat to say that they would not do something under warranty because of the Halfords battery. I have my third year warranty + 2 more years that I purchased from Fiat when I bought the car.

As for all the wonderful faults, yes I do get many. Usually that my coolant temp is high, even on a frosty morning when I first start the car.

Also, after sending my initial question, I thought I would have a closer look at the battery. I know it is supposed to be "maintenance free", but under the strap that holds it down is a access panel to add de-ionised water. I popped it off, and sure enough all the cells were pretty dry. I topped them up to the correct levels, and went for a 10 mile drive down the motorway, since I don't have a charger. I don't know if that will fix the problem. The sight glass on the battery (do they mean anything?) has gone from yellow to black, but not green. The car did start this morning without a problem. The battery may be knackered due to low water, but who knows? Any thoughts?

Thanks

Purplemonkey......................................

what's the spec of a JTD battery compared to the 1.6 battery? Is it the same size and will it fit the battery carrier? I get light dim when using electric windows, fan, indicators, etc................................no error messages though.

I heard that you lot sometimes get an error message appear that says, 'SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT A THREE DOOR' is this true?

Nerr, nerr, nerr, nerr, nerr................................................

Isn't the 1.6 battery 230 cold cranking amps, or something silly like that. The one from Halfords (yet to install) is 750, I think. I wonder if installing that would cure the creaking clutch pedal and doors ;)

I get dimming lights from turning my steering wheel, the indicators, so the standard battery has to be underpowered. You would have thought that with all the gizmos that the Stilo has they would have given a better battery.

The battery carrier seems pretty big, at least in width, so I imagine the JTD one would fit in it fine.

I am still at odds as to if I should change the battery to a non-Fiat battery, whether it be from Halfords or the local independent. As I said before, I would hate for my warranty to be compromised.
