got a funny little quirk to share

picked up an elm327 box and downloaded the FES

connects to the car no prob, all the stored faults now cleared

BUT

as soon as you plug the elm box into the socket it arms the alarm:confused:
not a problem as long as you keep still, lol

if anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening, or if its just my version of the ELM327 box thats causing it

Kev

To allow the ELM327 to connect to certain ECU's most cables have to be modified by linking pins 1,3,7 and 9. If this is not done using the correct electronic components or a straight short strange things can happen. This could be why your alarm arms itself.

have seen posts about linking the 4 pins. might pick up an extension for the obd as its a tight fit into the socket over the fuse box. then i can modify the extension for the stilo and use the elm as is on my vauxhall

cheers Shady

ive got a different 'Quirk'

removed the 120ohm resistor from between CAN L and Can H track on the PCB of my USB ELM lead, connected and worked fine with FES.
Since had it to bits and put 2x 100ohm resistors and 560pF cap.'s between CAN L and CAN H (where i desoldered the 120 ohm resistor) and the ground pin on the back of the multiplug on the PCB.

connected and worked fine with ProScan 5.9 on a friends '03 Mundane-o
--BUT--
failed to connect with my '02 Stilo with ProScan 5.9 OR FES (ended up having to use my vagcom lead to clear intermittent MIL light)

what were the mods for to the CAN lines??
might pick up another elm unit yet and pull it apart to solder a link across the pins mentioned.
