I had my car Serviced and MOT'd... a day later when I was conveniently required to reverse, I noticed the gear knob had no resistance when pulling the lever up, and the lever stayed up inside the knob part instead of returning back to the original position!
After closer inspection, I noticed the actual gear knob itself was slightly twisted and off-centre instead of being straight.... someone had obviously pulled the knob off and put it back slightly wonky!

Now I have the annoyance of a flappy lever under my fingers, and the ability to shove the lever from Third to Reverse....

I don't ask for requests usually, but is there any SPARE springs out here in Fiat Forum that I can get hold of? Otherwise, it's looking like a trip to a few scrap yards and pocketing one

Why don't you return to the garage and kindly ask them for your knob spring back?

That could be more trouble than it's worth. The onus is on the OP to prove that the garage actually took the spring and it was there before the MOT. Certainly no harm in asking the garage but if they replied "prove it", how?

Thanks for the concern yes I have a spare wheel in the boot still...

I would have went back straight away but it was the next day, sunday evening, when I realised... and as it was in the west midlands, I wern't due to return untill the weekend after. I could have phoned but I really doubt there would have been any good come out of it.

If you're in the Hudds area at any time I've got a whole box full of various springs, I'm sure one will do the job :)
Haha thanks for the offer man, I have no reason to drive up there accept if I win the lottery and decide to go buy an Evo X FQ300 from near Leeds... If so I'll pop in to get a spring for my Stilo (y)

Any idea what kind of length, diameter, etc it is? I'll have a look in my box and see what I've got, may be able to post it for the sake of a stamp ;)
Well it's about a maximum of 28mm diameter x 25mm height, being compressed to 15mm height.

If you do manage to find and send one, just send it as 3rd class or something to save you any expense!

Sometimes a "Thanks" would be a big enough carrot... but you have 188 already sheesh! Do you think this spring would qualify for a "Traders Rating"? lol
