Quite excited :D

I've got my '06 1.9 MultiJet Sporting, 120Bhp, booked in for a remap Thursday 17th Feb.
Should get rolling road printouts etc so I'll thrown those up for anyone who's interested.

Decided to go with R-Tech Hinckley, just up the road from me in Coventry, got really good reviews, davidthelodge got his JTD done recently and the service sounded really good, plus the discount for FF-members helps too ;)

They specialise in VW's and are highly regarded for they work they do. As a result they don't have a map for my car so I've got to have it done on a weekday so they can devote the time to build a custom map, too busy on weekends mapping models they know about which take less time.

Just had to share.... will update once it's done.

Been, Done and Oh My God!!!!

Spent just over 3 1/2 hours at R-Tech while Nick and the guys made sure the was in tip-top condition, tested it on rolling road, got the ECU off for remappings and rolling road again.

I got a fully custom map based on the full settings that were read of the unit to start with.

The results.... 175.2bhp and 282.7ft-lb Torque  0-62mph is now 7.9sec.

When driving 'sensibly' keeping it under about 2200rpm when making my way up the gears it drives just like it used to but with much better mpg, 4th gear at 50mph it was reporting 60ish mpg!!

Take 2nd, 3rd or 4th past 2200rmp and the car just goes! It pulls like a freaking train.

All in all I'm really happy with it, will take a little bit of getting used to the new driving style but that's just part of the fun.

Here's the graph, the scale is for torque v rmp so the bhp doesn't equate to the scale on the left and annoyingly it's only at-wheels but the other measurement are at the top.... I've labelled the graph as the colours didn't scan well

Wow those are some impressive results but do you think the clutch can handle those figures ok? I can't wait to have some spare cash and get my jtd done.

From what I've read i'm confident in the clutch. I believe the one in the Mjet is different from the JTD one and a little stronger.
My car has only done 28k so the clutch is practically new and should be fine (touch wood!)

The mjet 120 probably has the same clutch as the 150 so should be ok. I'd be happy if I got my jtd at 150 with no issues. I do very little mileage so I should be ok too.

I get you, I guess we only really hear about the people that have the problems and not the people say 'mines all good' :)

I just need to get he suspension sported now!

Driving style plays a big part in how your clutch handles the extra power. Dumping the clutch and launching it of every set of lights you come to will do it no good what so ever. Usually best to fully engage the clutch before unleashing the horses. ;)

I duno how my poor kangoo van clutch has survived over the past 3 years i do everything wrong imaginable to that van lol on the limit as fast as the bucket will go lol. Ive only ever smelt the clutch burn 1ce on a steep hill in the snow some idiot in a corsa decided to drive up the hill at 30mph of course my van didnt make it and i had to roll down the hill in reverse and take another run at it but it made it even the speedo said 80mp but i was only doin bought 30 lol. Im alot more protective over the stilo though cause i pay the repair bills :p

My clutch started to slip very soon after my re-map and I dont race away from the lights, too old for that now. I had a run down to Newport from Kidderminster on Wed and the cars performance is much better than it used to be, however it really smokes now when you accelerate hard, in the dark with cars following with their headlights on its like a James Bond smoke screen. It would be interesting to know if yours was the same, as prior to the re-map mine has not used to smoke, it had the wrong MAF on however.

My clutch is still slipping if I accelerate hard in 3rd & 4th, I wonder if that will damage the dual mass flywheel? I need to get an uprated fast road clutch and get it fitted when funds allow. Glad u are pleased it took a long time and lots of phone calls to find R-Tech, and £240-250 for full custom map is a great price.

I've just posted up another update on the saga of "Anyone interested, West Midland group buy, re-map". Maybe someone clever could now move this thread and add it onto the back of the group buy other one ?

So why dont all JTD115 clutches slip in 3/4/5th after a 150-160 bhp + 240-250 ft lbs of torque re-map ?

Well here's my take on it.

Clutch slip normally occurs when:

1. The friction surface of the clutch plate is badly worn.
2. The pressure plate for some reason cannot produce enough pressure to over come the torque.

I guess the reason some remapped JTD(115) owners experience clutch slip and some don't would most likely be related to the pressure plate not being able to over come the extra torque created by the remap.

Reasons this may happen are:

1. Some remaps are better than others. Some could be brillant and far exceed the capabilities of the clutch.
2. The pressure plate is damaged and not functioning properly. A slipping clutch produces a lot of heat. The heat can cause the springs in the pressure plate to fail prematurely.

For example.
My daughters boyfriend drives a Saxo. Typical boyracer, dustbin for an exhaust, huge speakers in the boot. He also drives like an idiot, slipping the clutch for far to long when launching himself from traffic lights etc.
Last year his clutch failed. It was so bad the AA had to tow him home. When he eventually had it fixed he was told his pressuere plate had been cooked softening the springs. This created clutch slip which created more heat which killed his clutch.

So either you have a better than average remap and the standard clutch can't cope with the extra torque or your clutch was damaged and failed prematurely possibley due to a build up of heat.

Well the clutch etc wasnt designed for 150bhp and its a bit hit and miss whether your clutch can cope i think. But although the car maybe be capable of that power its not always adviasable as certain components may struggle. Alot of people that remap jtds will not go past 145bhp. You could ask the people that mapped your jtd to tone it down a little in those gears.
