Flashing Indicators on cars WITHOUT alarms

Just to make sure... Are indicators supposed to flash when you lock and unlock the doors even though no alarm is fitted?

All,

To set the record straight my Stilo does not have a car alarm but the lights flash when opening or locking the doors.

When you purchase the car the system is set to NOT flash by default. My dealer informed me that he could make the lights flash.

It's very simple they connect the computer into the car, scroll through a couple of menus and switch the feature on.

Takes about 5 minutes.

YOU DO NOT NEED A CAR ALARM FOR THE LIGHTS TO FLASH.

Hope this helps.

Could someone who has got the flashing indicators to work on a stilo without an alarm fitted please let the rest of us poor folk who's dealers insist it CANNOT be done, which dealer it is that CAN do this mod

Thanks

Tim h

I also had lots of hassle trying to get my dealer to activate flashing indicators on my abarth without an alarm.
In the end I printed out every message on the forum that I could find about this problem and went in to the dealers and put 20 pages of A4 on the desk and suggested that if they couldn't sort it out that they rang some of the dealers mentioned to find out how it was done.

I now have flashing indicators !!!!

Flashing Indicators on cars WITHOUT alarms

All,

I have been sending emails to Fiat to see if they can sort out the indicator flashing problem.

Please see the reply I received from Fiat today. So if any dealers still insist it cannot be done. Ask them to local at the Bulletin.

The ones who's dealers still say it can't be done please inform them it would be interesting to see what they say. Please post your findings here.

Now see below.... :)

Dear Mr X,

Thank you for your e-mails dated the 18th and 19th of March 2003.

I have consulted Tim Speechley and Alan Smith in the Product Engineering
department of our Head Office in Slough and can respond as follows:

Fiat Auto (UK) Ltd informed the entire authorised Fiat dealership network
last year on how to perform this procedure. This was on Service Information
Bulletin 22 issued on the 12th of August 2002. We are also in the process of
asking the Fiat Stilo factory at Cassino to set all the UK vehicles so that
the indicators flash in the described manner.

We would like to thank you for your constructive suggestions and your
continuing interest in the Fiat Marque.

Yours sincerely,

Hi all,

I'm from France and here there is no problem with the flashing indicators as such. When you lock the car, the indicators flash just once, when you unlock the car they flash twice.

When you use the deadlock (you have to press the lock button twice on the remote) it flashes once for the lock sequence and twice for the deadlock activation.

I don't have an alarm installed so it's just standard equipment !

Why all this fuss in the UK with the flashing indicators ? Are they deactivated as standard equipment and only activated on request ?

OK!!! I now have flashing indication when locking or unlocking the car. Fixed it today!!!!!!
Now, from what i could see, the guy connected the car with the examiner, went into SECURITY menu then procedeed into BODY COMPUTER MAGNETTI menu and then proceeded though 3 - 4 menus, and the system asked him if he wanted to activate the "BLINKER" function. He then asked me for the electronic code ( 5 digit number on a small blue creditcard size card which also has the mechanical code written on, which is given with the car), he put in the system and !!! TARAAAAAMMM!!!! flashing indicators! I am pleased with this because i can now be sure that I have locked the car without looking through the window to see the red light blinking!!!

Just to repeat and to clarify to all STILO OWNERS . you do not, do not need to have alarm fitted!:):D[8D]

DONE it too!!!
I went to the dealer yesterday and told them i want this to be done. I also mentioned that it is doable :D . They took the car into the garage and connected it with the FIAT Computer and after 2 minutes the mechanic comes along and asks if i have the personal code. Gave them the code and 2 minutes after BLINKER is on.
Feels very good to know if your car is locked.
Thanx gays
PS: I don't have an alarm system fitted.
PS2: If they couldn't do it [pantjo] i would have come a trip to Greece and visited your dealer:D

Regarding flashing indicators, have just bought a Fiat stilo dynamic 1.6 and like others in this forum, notice the indicators did not flash. Have rung the local dealer who has told me the setting can be changed - for a fee of £30 pounds. From what I've read on this topic, this seems a complete rip off for what has been described as a five minutes job. Has anyone else been charged similar amounts.

Finally, the fiat garage in aberden have enabled the indicators on my car, it's only taken them 4 months of being told that it's possible to be able to figure it out.

Finally got it done!

I went to my exeter dealer, and they said that it needed an alarm to be fitted to be able to do it (probably on the wrong menu).

Thanks to the guys from here, I persisted and went to my paignton (devon, uk) dealer who very helpfully did it in 5 minutes, and charged me nothing!

Now all i need to do is get this squeaking rear suspension sorted . . .

just brought a stilo about 18 months old from my local reg vardy what is this code of which you speak!
:D

The code to make the Indicators flash is like a little credit card sized thing called a "Code card". It has two codes on it, one of which is required if you want the indicators to be set to flash. You have to specifically request one, because in the UK the card isnt supplied when you buy the car. I believe the rest of Europe are supplied them as standard.

I believe you also need the card if you want extra keys making.

The code for the cd changer is a four digit code supplied with the Blaupunkt auto-changer. You enter it into the head unit so it knows you havent nicked it!! I wasn't given mine from new so at the moment the changer is useless.

I want to get the flashers on my 18 month old Stilo that I've just got done, I've been to two dealers who again say it can't be done... and a third who wants £27.50 +VAT to do it!! Is there no way around this other than going to a dealer?

I know you could argue £27+ is cheaper than an alarm, but when you consider it's only 'cos FIAT UK get Italy to deselect it, it's a damn cheek. Also, to add insult to injury, the dealer (or is it FIAT UK) want another £23 to 'transfer' their owner records into my name and another £60 to transfer the balance of the three year warranty!!!

Those dealers are having a laugh. Those that cliam they don't know are incompetant and those charging you are rip off merchants!!

I had mine activated FOC by my dealer. The immediately knoew what I was talking about and did not bat an eyelid.

Where in the UK are you? Maybe someone can recommend a dealer?

Iya

Sorry i just caught the last bit of this thread and wanted to say that my dealer charged me for flashing lights (indicators).

They said that I need the VID (vehicle identification number).
I provided proof of who i was, the log book and handed over around £26.

Fiat request the vid number from the security database, and I presume that they are charged for this. Once they have it, they should give it you on a card to keep with your documents. Also they should give you the radio code and the immobiliser code.

A total rip off if you ask me, but then thats dealers for ya!!

Hope this helps
Email me if you want further info.
Where abouts are you in UK?

I've been caught on the 23 quid for the transfer but got my dealer to cough up for it as the form Fiat sent me clearly stated it was the dealer transfer fee.

The 60 quid is only payable if your warranty needs to be re-validated (i.e. if the servicing hasn't been done when due or has been done by a non Fiat dealer who hasn't used genuine Fiat parts). Mine was an ex National Car Rentals hire car and was serviced by Inchcape so I need to get them to confirm in writing that they used genuine parts to satisfy Fiat.

Can't wait for it to transfer over as I think I hear the dreaded subframe creaking...

The £23.50 is an admin fee charged by Fiat (not the dealer) to transfer the third year of the warranty and the AA cover to you as the new owner. Unless your car is over two years old (I don't think any UK Stilos are yet) this will not affect any warranty work being done.

However, if you want the third year warranty cover and AA cover you will need to pay this fee.

As far as Iam aware, there should be no charge for the VID. I bought my car just under a year old and my dealer has never asked me for a VID when working on my car and has never charged for anything other than for a standard service and for tyres.

Your dealers are having a laugh. Complain to them and to Fiat in writing!

Hi,

I'm in Staffordshire and struggling to find a half-decent dealer. By the way, according to Fiat UK, when I rang them the other day, they abandoned the Key Card system last year. Dealers have access to the relevant codes via the Fiat UK computer system.
