Technical Remote locking-Flashing indicators?

Had to put my stilo in to get the Airbag sensor sorted out and enquired about the flashing indicators even though i have not got an alarm. They said they would have a look and credit to them when i picked it up, it had been enabled and no i wasn't charged either must admit that my dealer has been good and helpful since i brought my stilo in August. :)

I went to my local dealer, told them to look at Technical Bulletin 22, they hooked up the computer and my indicators were flashing on opening and closing within two minutes. They said they were not set like this from factory, as FIAT believed that the British market only liked this feature activated on cars with alarms, that's what they told me!

:p

When my Stilo was in service, they needed only one code.

I'm just wondering . . .

Do the indicators flash when a Stilo is fitted with an alarm from the factory?

I've also looked at my FIAT Parts CD (both Compact98 and ePER) and both show an electronic control unit with "223 - AntiTheft" as a description. I think this is the alarm. Can i just plug this in and get my dealer to tell the body computer that the car has an alarm? It's only £80

WAIT - I've looked at it, and saw that i'd need to buy the Ultrasonic Sensors too. At £180 i'm not spending that!!! My indicators flash anyways, that'll do for me!

Hi janevj

Thanks for your reply. My brother should be happy - he's just bought a new Stilo 3dr Abarth in broom yellow. He said he wanted me to get it reprogrammed at my dealer if his indicators didnt flash - one less job for me!

Just got my inticators to flash from my local dealer.

Heres how I managed to get them to do it for free!!!!!
Originally they wanted £25 to activate the blinker function, I did not want to pay this for a 2 minute job.
To get round this I told my dealer that I had had a sensor fault come up on my dash display meaning that because my car is under warranty they would have to plug in the diagnostic computer to look for the error. Therefore covering the cost for the £25, so while they were doing this I asked them if they could activate the blinker function while the computer was plugged in. I therefore got the blinker function activated for free.

Try this if your fiat dealer wants you to pay to have the blinker function activated.

right, daft question :I but how do you know whether you have an alarm. It's never had the occassion to go off on my car (maybe becasue I don't have one :D) but it's got the flashing light red light on the doo panel. I too don't have any flashing indicators but want to get them sorted at the next service.

Cheers

The indicators is no problem, two minutes and they'll be done!

The alarm, well if you don't know if you've got one, I'd say you haven't, as I believe they're an option and not standard, at least they were in 03 when I bought mine!:D

i can give you a tip how can you visualise if you had an alarm or not.

if you have one, you should have 3+2=5 buttons on the roof between the seats ... its 3for the lights + 2 for the deactivision of the alarm (one for deactivision on the inside movement sensor and the other for deactivision on the one for lowering the car).

As twincamms said earlier the whole thing about the flashing indicators not being set at the factory and how to set them is set out in Service Information Bulletin 22 issued on the 12th of August 2002, in which it said that Fiat UK have asked the factory @ cassino to set UK supplied cars with the lights to flash.

Also you do NOT need an alarm for this function to work as I know for a fact the 3 MY04's I have seen all had the flashing indicators working without an alarm present.... one was the Abarth manual.

Just had a result on this one :D

I emailed my local dealership on Wednesday asking how i would go about activating the indicators and obtaining the car security code. and had a reply within half an hour. I was told they normally charge £19+vat for various programming jobs and that it costs £10+vat to obtain the security codes, but as I have only had the car for a few months they would activate the indicators for £10 including vat and supply the security codes free of charge. I thought a tenner was very resonable since they offered to fit me in within a couple of days (+ they are in business to make money after all). So today I took my Stilo to my dealership and 15 mins later all done and my security codes supplied.

A tenner isn't too bad when you see what others have been quoted.

It cost me £7.50 from my local dealer to get the little blue code card and they enabled the flashing indicators for free.

Ive got a 1.2 active and i must admit that when i first bought it the indicators didnt flash on lock/unlock, The car developed a fault on the body computer which was replaced by my dealership and it came back with them flashing.. The tech mustve set them up when setting up the new body computer cos i didnt ask about em as never knew they flashed.

Black Stilo 3Dr 1.2 Active .Bog standard except for CD player and Fiat Alloys

the new stilo has it set as standard. pre 2004 stilos can have it activated at a fiat dealer, you cannot do it yourself. ask your fiat dealer about it, it was explained to them in service info bulletin No 22. 12th aug 2002.

Indicator flash-door lock

I have a 02 1.2 stilo 5dr. Had the car now for 18 months.Since day 1 the indicators dont flash when locking/unlocking the car.Its only an active model and im wondering if this is a fault or only happens on higher models..

Re: Indicator flash-door lock

you can turn it on by getting your local dealer to connect your car to examiner and turn it on, this may cost you a small fee or they may do it FOC at a next service, you also need the ignition code (5 digit number on a credit card size bit of plastic).

they only flash as standard on 04 and newer models.

Central locking

Hi, reading my manual it states when i lock the car the direction indicators are meant to flash, it doesnt, i dont have an alarm just an immobiliser, but my lights do not flash when i lock or open the doors?

Problem, or does the flashing come with only certain models.
