Well obviously being due a MOT very soon the Stilo, as much as it is loved, has started to play up.

I've had a few errors similar in the past which have cleared themselves, but this time, on check, ABS, EBD and ASR show up as errors but stay on and do not clear themselves. Also the parking brake light is coming up and does not go off when the handbreak is disengaged.

I've had the wheels off, checked for obvious damage to cables etc but have been unable to find anything. I'm looking for suggestions as to where to try before the inevitable trip to the garage becomes a reality. I'm hoping someone has had the same issue so may have an idea of a fix. I've also ordered a cable for the laptop to read faults, hoping that turns up pretty soon.

I wouldn't of started a new thread for this but most of the other threads on the same subject I've found are where the fault clears itself.

Any info from people with a bit knowledge is greatly appreciated!!!

Here's hoping.
I've just had another look at the handbrake, removed the leather surround so I can see down into the handbrake fittings. I can see a sensor which I am presuming is the one you said for the handbrake, also the little push button that seems to operate it. I've tried pushing the button down, as though the handbrake is disengaged and no change, so maybe that sensor is duffed. Anybody know if and how the centre console comes out without me damaging it?

Also, if that sensor is at fault, just out of curiosity how will that affect the ABS etc? I though they're were completely different systems.

Thanks again!

Perhaps try squirting some electrical contact cleaner down on the switch - it may clear the problem without having to pull the car apart. I think Argo is right - if the ABS ECU detects that the handbrake is on, it may not play ball.

:bang: Just to follow up on my original post.

I got hold of the ECU Scan software and a lead to read it. Anyway after soldering the lead to work with the ABS unit I've managed to get it set up and running and it has thrown back the following fault codes.

C1608, Invalid Signal, Fatal, Light On

The reason for this fault is that the ECU has received invalid signal from the sensor. The fault is present now. Take appropriate action to fix this sensor fault. The dashboard warning light was activated for this fault.

C1276, ABS/ESP SV Relay, Fatal, Light On

The Main Relay or the associated circuitry has a defect. This relay is usually part of the hydraulic assembly and supplies the power to the solenoid valves and acts as a safety device. Check:
1) permanent (+ 30) and Key-On power supplies and ground circuits for opens, shorts or weak connections
2) the relay coils and the relay for proper functioning
The fault is present now. Take appropriate action to fix this sensor fault. Dashboard warning light was activated for this fault. [/

I've also checked the battery voltages, thinking they could maybe suspect, they are reading approx 15.2v on the ABS unit and 13.6v on the actual ECU when the engine is running.
Anybody with any ideas of what to do to further investigate the problem I'd like to hear from. I'm just hoping these fault's don't mean that the actual ABS unit is goosed, or possibly worse

The obvious checks have already been given (handbrake sensor OR fuse).

Otherwise I'd do as suggested but a poor contact (corrosion) within the system I'd say is more likely.
