02 Stilo Aftermarket Radio Installation

Hello

My factory fitted Visteon radio started playing up - the internal FM amplifier was faulty and most times I had to turn the radio up to max to hear anything (even then it sounded tinny!).

I've removed the radio and bought a fascia to replace it which allows me to fit a standard radio.

I'm trying to fit an Aiwa CT-R429MYZ Radio Cassette Player which has standard ISO plugs. However when I connect it to my Stilo's ISO plugs I can turn the radio on but I get no sound at all. I have checked the manual for the original sound system compared to the new one and as far as I can see everything is connected to the right wires as follows:

ISO Power Plug

Pin 1: No pin on new radio
Pin 2: No pin on new radio
Pin 3: No pin on new radio
Pin 4: Ignition Power (Yellow)
Pin 5: Blue and white cable on the plug but no match on the new radio
Pin 6: No pin on new radio
Pin 7: Permanant Power (Red)
Pin 8: Ground / Earth (Black)

ISO Speaker Plug

Pin 1: Right Rear + (Purple)
Pin 2: Right Rear - (Purple & Black)
Pin 3: Right Front + (Grey)
Pin 4: Right Front - (Grey & Black)
Pin 5: Left Front + (White)
Pin 6: Left Front - (White & Black)
Pin 7: Left Rear + (Green)
Pin 8: Left Rear - (Green & Black)

On the new radio I have one cable that is not connected to anything - it is blue and has a 0.5A fuse inline - any ideas what this is for (Power Antenna?).

Any ideas why I am not getting any sound from this radio? I tested it in my girlfriends Seicento and it worked perfectly so it is not the radio at fault.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: 02 Stilo Aftermarket Radio Installation

if you removed a Visteon radio there is no switched 12v power on pin 4 , the Visteon is switched on by a can signal on pin 1 and 3.
So you have to connect a switched +12v wire to pin 4.

Re: 02 Stilo Aftermarket Radio Installation

I think the simple solution is to connect RED & YELLOW together.

...although you'll need to remember to turn the unit off manually.

Re: 02 Stilo Aftermarket Radio Installation

Hooray! Thanks for your help that did the trick - I split the red cable to supply both the red and yellow cables on the radio and it's working fine now!

Thanks again!

Re: 02 Stilo Aftermarket Radio Installation

if you really wanna run it from the key and not have the radio on 24.7 then you can run a wire to the key. its a wire that lies under the plastic of the steering wheel column. its what i did and now radio turns on with ignition

or you can run it from the cigar lighter as that isnt live until the ignition is switched on - you can run it straight from the fuse box or from the connections under the actual lighter.

Hi All,

My cd player has been playing up so I bought a Sony MEX-BT3700U second hand to put in my car. I also bought a fitting kit thinking it would be all I need
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250516294058&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:GB:1123

It included

  • FP-01-05 FASCIA SURROUND
  • PC2-36-4 WIRING HARNESS
  • PC5-27 AERIAL ADAPTOR
Now... Could someone confirm whether or not I need to run an extra cable for power from somewhere as I have installed the surround (doesn't fit very well) and connected the new stereo to the PC2-36-4 which I've connected to the car but I get no power to the headunit at all.

Appreciate any help

When you say connect red and yellow together. Do you mean on the cars loom on the stereos. Or doesn't it matter :bang: Sorry, not an electrician at all. Just want power to my headunit :(

Re: 02 Stilo Aftermarket Radio Installation

Ideally you want to do it on the supplied loom that came with the radio.

Many have simple plug-in connectors which makes it really easy.

You don't need to take power from anywhere else as permanent live is available on the ISO block

Unfortunately I think this sounds like something I'm quite likely to b0rk up so I've booked an auto electrician to come and sort it all out for me on Saturday morning for £25. Just have to hum until then!

edit: Just re read the OP and it appears he had power but no sounds - isn't that something completely different than needing the 12v ?

OK, So if I'm reading that correctly all I have to do is :

Is that right?

If so, how do I release the cables from the block. i.e. where do I have to prod something in. The wire end or the pin end?

Thanks again :)

Re: 02 Stilo Aftermarket Radio Installation

Right I've done that ^^ and hurrah! I now have a working stereo. It still has power when the keys out but that's not the end of the world cos I live in Middlesbrough and I'm unlikely to ever leave the fascia on.

Taking it off will power the unit down though right? I'm not going to come back to a dead battery tomorrow?

thanks,

Re: 02 Stilo Aftermarket Radio Installation

I didn't swap the sony connectors as I had the ISO loom that came from ebay so I snipped the two cables on that and joined them again with some terminal block I had lying around

Swapping the red and yellow? Wouldn't that mean you have no power? All you do is unplug the red and plug it into the yellow.

You can turn the HU off manually before removing the fascia by holding the power button.

Well, drive to work this morning was a pleasure! Bluetooth Audio connected straight to my iPhone and streamed directly. Discovered that holding the select button activated voice control on my iPhone as well so I can just say 'Call name' or 'Play song'. Absolutely superb. Best 100quid I've spent on the car!

Thanks for everyones help
